Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Bio-Screen
The biological media frame that fits inside a Fluval C2's trickle chamber. This is Fluval's genuine Bio-Screen insert for the C2 Power Filter (manufacturer part 14020) — a mesh screen that spreads water evenly across the C2's trickle chamber while giving beneficial bacteria a surface to colonise. It also traps larger debris before water reaches the finer media below it.
Key features
- Even flow distribution — spreads water across the trickle chamber instead of channelling it through one spot.
- Biological surface area — gives nitrifying bacteria somewhere to establish, supporting the filter's biological stage.
- Pre-filters debris — catches larger particles before they reach the carbon and ammonia-remover media.
- Three-pack — sized to let you stagger replacement rather than swapping the whole biological stage at once.

Will it fit my filter?
This insert is sized for the Fluval C2 Power Filter's trickle chamber. The C3 and C4 use larger chambers and take their own Bio-Screen inserts, not this one.
Care and maintenance
Fluval doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval for the Bio-Screen the way it does for carbon and ammonia remover — the general guidance for biological media is to stagger replacement of the filter's different media rather than changing everything at once, so an established bacterial colony is never wiped out in a single service. Rinse it in tank water at each clean and replace it only once it's visibly torn or badly clogged.
Not included
This is the Bio-Screen insert only. The C2's foam pad, carbon and ammonia remover are separate consumables.
Warranty and delivery
Genuine Fluval spare part, covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
How often should I replace it?
Fluval hasn't published a fixed interval for this part. Rinse it during routine maintenance and replace it when it's torn, badly clogged, or clearly no longer distributing flow evenly.
Will replacing it disturb my cycle?
Replacing all your biological media in one go can. Stagger it against your carbon and ammonia-remover changes rather than swapping everything on the same day.
Does it need rinsing before first use?
A quick rinse in dechlorinated or tank water before fitting it removes any manufacturing dust.
