Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Ammonia Remover

Zeolite ammonia control, sized for the C4's chemical stage.

This is the genuine Fluval Ammonia Remover for the C4 Power Filter, part 14016, 290 g across a 3-pack. It's a zeolite-based chemical media that pulls dissolved ammonia out of the water column, aimed at new setups and heavily stocked freshwater tanks where ammonia is the thing most likely to spike between water changes.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval 14016 — sized for the C4's media basket.
  • Targets ammonia specifically — works by ion exchange, pulling ammonia out of solution rather than just polishing water clarity.
  • Suited to new and heavily stocked tanks — Fluval markets it for exactly the setups where ammonia is most likely to spike: cycling tanks and tanks carrying a lot of fish for their volume.
  • 3-pack — a fresh cartridge for the next three services.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for freshwater aquariums, particularly new tanks still cycling and heavily stocked tanks where ammonia can build up between services. Not suitable for saltwater or reef tanks — zeolite ion exchange is disrupted by the other ions present in marine water, so it will not remove ammonia there the way it does in freshwater. Not a substitute for an established biological filter; use it as backup and buffer, not as the tank's only ammonia control.

Care and maintenance

Chemical media saturates rather than clogs. As a general rule for this class of media, replace monthly, or sooner during a cycling period or after any ammonia spike where the cartridge has clearly been doing extra work.

Warranty and delivery

Supplied as genuine Fluval filter media. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.

Common questions

Does this work in a saltwater tank?

No. Fluval markets this ammonia remover for freshwater aquariums. The zeolite media relies on ion exchange that saltwater's other dissolved ions interfere with, so it won't reliably pull ammonia out of a marine tank.

How is this different from Zeo-Carb?

Zeo-Carb combines this same ammonia-removing zeolite with activated carbon in one cartridge. This product is the ammonia remover on its own, without the carbon.

How often should I replace it?

As a general rule for chemical media, monthly — sooner if your tank is still cycling or has just had an ammonia spike.

Will this fit my Fluval C3?

No. The C3 uses its own ammonia remover pack. This one, 14016, is sized for the C4 only.
