A ready-fit carbon cartridge that keeps a Fluval Nano filter clearing water discolouration and odour, with no cutting or bagging of loose media. This is the genuine Fluval Carbon Cartridge for the Nano Aquarium Filter (Fluval part A458), sold as a 2-pack, and drops straight into the Nano filter's media compartment alongside the foam pad already fitted.

Will it fit my filter?
This cartridge is sized for the Fluval Nano Aquarium Filter (A455) and its media compartment only — it is not designed for Fluval's larger internal or canister filters, which use their own media formats.
What's included
2 x carbon cartridges. The filter's foam pad and Bio-Foam are not included — this pack is chemical media only, used alongside the mechanical and biological media already fitted.
Care and maintenance
Carbon has a limited working life once wet — most aquarists replace it every 3 to 4 weeks, as it can begin releasing what it's absorbed back into the water once exhausted. Rinse the new cartridge under tap water before fitting to clear any loose carbon dust.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine tanks running a Fluval Nano filter where water needs polishing after medication, tannin staining, or general odour and discolouration control. Not a substitute for mechanical or biological filtration — always run alongside the foam pad and Bio-Foam, not instead of them. Remove carbon before dosing most medications, as it will absorb them.

Common questions
How often should I replace the carbon?
Roughly every 3 to 4 weeks under normal use — carbon stops absorbing once its pores are saturated, so leaving it in longer than that does little.
Do I need to remove it before treating my tank with medication?
Yes. Carbon will absorb most medications along with the impurities it's designed to remove, reducing the treatment's effectiveness. Take it out before dosing and put a fresh one back in once the course is finished.
Does this replace the foam pad?
No. It's an additional chemical media that sits alongside the foam pad and Bio-Foam already fitted to the filter, not a replacement for either.
