Fluval Nano Plant LED Light Unit
A compact, app-controlled LED built to grow plants in small tanks, not just light them. The Fluval Nano Plant LED Light Unit is the 15 W Plant 3.0 Nano Bluetooth fixture in Fluval's current range, built as an over-glass clip light for nano planted aquariums and shrimp tanks. Six LED channels – 3000K, 6500K, 15000K, pink, and two blue wavelengths (460 nm and 480 nm) – are blended through the FluvalSmart app to give a genuine plant-growth spectrum rather than a single fixed white.
Key features
- Six independent LED channels – 3000K, 6500K, 15000K, pink, 460 nm and 480 nm blues, each controllable, so the spectrum can be tuned for planted growth or shrimp colour rather than left on one fixed white.
- 1000 lumens from 15 W – enough output for low-to-medium light plants in a nano tank; not intended as a high-light, CO2-dosed carpeting rig.
- FluvalSmart app control over Bluetooth – a programmable 24-hour cycle with gradual sunrise, midday peak, sunset and a dim night phase, plus Lake Malawi, Tropical and Planted presets.
- IP67-rated, fully encased aluminium shell – built for the splash and humidity around an open-top nano tank.
- Over-the-glass clip mount – repositions up/down, side-to-side and forward/backward without drilling or a separate arm.
- 120° spread per LED – even coverage across a small footprint rather than a single hot spot.

Will it fit my tank?
The clip mount is built for rimless and low-rim nano tanks, with a footprint of about 12.7 x 12.7 cm underneath the fixture – the light itself spreads wider than that thanks to the 120° beam angle per LED. It's sized for nano and small planted setups; on a tank longer than roughly 30–45 cm you'll get a bright centre with noticeably dimmer glass at each end, and a longer Plant Nano or full-size Plant fixture from the same range would serve you better.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for nano and small planted freshwater aquariums, shrimp tanks and betta bowls where low-to-medium light plants (Anubias, Cryptocoryne, Java fern, most mosses) are the goal.
- Suitable for shrimp keepers who want colour-enhancing spectrum control without a full reef-style controller.
- Not suitable as the sole light source for high-light, CO2-injected carpeting plants – 1000 lm from a single 15 W nano fixture won't sustain that without supplementary lighting.
- Not suitable for tanks longer than about 45 cm as a single unit – coverage falls off toward the ends of the tank.
What's included
The light unit, the over-glass mounting clip, and the plug-pack power adaptor. A tank hood or glass lid isn't required for the clip mount, but keep the fixture clear of direct splash beyond its IP67 rating.
Performance
Fluval publishes the diode mix, lumen output and beam angle for this fixture, but doesn't publish a PAR-by-depth chart for the Nano Plant LED specifically, unlike its PAR-mapped Aqua-Vue and higher-output Plant range fixtures. If you're growing anything more demanding than low-light species, treat the 1000 lm / 15 W figures as a guide and watch plant response over the first few weeks rather than relying on a published PAR curve, because we don't have one to give you for this model.
Safety
Runs from the included plug-pack adaptor. The fixture itself is IP67-rated for splash and humidity, but the adaptor is not submersible and should sit above the waterline, as with any aquarium electrical accessory. Unplug before servicing the tank.
Goes well with
- Seachem Flourish – a comprehensive liquid fertiliser to support the plant growth this light is aimed at.
- Seachem Flourish Excel – a liquid carbon source for tanks running without CO2 injection, which most nano setups under this light will be.
- Fluval Betta/Shrimp Stratum – a nano-scaled planted substrate that suits the same tank sizes this light is built for.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the consumer guarantees that apply under Australian Consumer Law regardless of any additional manufacturer term – ask us for the current Fluval warranty documentation for this model. Standard parcel delivery; no special freight handling required.
Common questions
Can I run this on a tank without a lid?
Yes – the IP67 rating covers splash and humidity, which is the main exposure risk on an open-top nano tank. Keep the plug-pack adaptor itself away from direct water contact.
Will it grow carpet plants like Monte Carlo or HC?
Not reliably on its own. At 1000 lm from 15 W it suits low-to-medium light species well, but is unlikely to sustain a demanding carpet plant without CO2 and a stronger fixture.
Does it work without the FluvalSmart app?
The fixture is designed to be operated through the app over Bluetooth; there's no separate manual on/off dial on the unit itself.
Is this the same as the Fluval Plant 3.0 Nano?
Yes – the Nano Plant LED Light Unit sold here is the 15 W Plant 3.0 Nano Bluetooth fixture in Fluval's current range.
