Seachem Flourish

Feeds the trace elements a planted tank strips out of the water column.

Seachem Flourish is a comprehensive supplement of trace and micro elements – iron, manganese, boron, zinc and more – for freshwater planted aquariums, dosed once or twice a week to replace what fast-growing plants consume. It carries calcium, magnesium and potassium too, without the heavy nitrogen or phosphate load of a fish-food-driven tank.

Key features
  • Broad trace-element base – iron, manganese, boron, zinc, copper, cobalt and molybdenum in one dose, plus calcium, magnesium and potassium.
  • Low nitrogen and phosphate – 0.07% total nitrogen and 0.01% phosphate, so it won't feed algae the way a nitrogen-heavy fertiliser can.
  • Shrimp-safe at the recommended dose – used across community and shrimp-keeping planted tanks.
  • Concentrated – a 50 mL bottle treats roughly 2,500 L across its dosing life, working out to under a cent per litre.
  • Part of a modular system – pairs with Flourish Excel for a carbon source and Flourish Tabs for root feeders, so dosing can be tuned per tank.

Which size do I need?
Pack Water treated per dose cycle Cost per litre treated
50 mL 2,500 L under 1c per litre
100 mL 5,000 L under 1c per litre
250 mL 12,500 L under 1c per litre
500 mL 25,000 L under 1c per litre
2 L 100,000 L under 1c per litre
4 L 200,000 L under 1c per litre

Every size works out to a fraction of a cent per litre dosed – the deciding factor is tank size and how often the bottle gets used before the cap thread clogs, not price per litre.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: freshwater planted aquariums, community tanks with live plants, tanks also keeping shrimp at the recommended dose.
  • Not suitable for: fish-only tanks with no live plants – the trace elements have nothing to be taken up and will simply accumulate.
Dosage and directions
  • Add 5 mL (1 capful) per 250 L, once or twice a week.
  • Each thread of the cap holds roughly 1 mL, for finer dosing in smaller tanks.
  • Refrigerate the bottle from 3 months after first opening.
Safety

Aquarium use only – keep away from children. Contains 1,5-pentanedial (a preservative), which may cause an allergic reaction on skin contact; rinse off if it happens.

Goes well with
  • Seachem Flourish Excel – a liquid carbon source that pairs with Flourish's mineral dose rather than duplicating it.
  • Seachem Flourish Tabs – root tabs for heavy root feeders that Flourish's water-column dosing doesn't reach.
  • Seachem Flourish Potassium – for tanks that need extra potassium beyond what Flourish alone supplies.
  • Seachem Equilibrium – raises general hardness in RO/RO-DI setups, complementing Flourish's trace-element dose.
Warranty and delivery

Covered by Seachem's standard manufacturer warranty in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight for bottles up to 500 mL; the 2 L and 4 L sizes ship as a standard parcel, no special handling required.

Common questions

Will Flourish feed algae?

At the recommended dose it's unlikely to – nitrogen and phosphate are both under 0.1% of the formula. Algae blooms in planted tanks are far more often light or CO2 related than caused by trace-element dosing.

Do I still need a separate iron supplement?

Flourish already contains iron (0.32%), but heavily planted or high-tech tanks often run through it fast – Flourish alone is usually enough for low-to-medium light setups, with Flourish Iron as a top-up for demanding ones.

Is it safe with shrimp?

Yes, dosed as directed it's used across shrimp-keeping planted tanks.

Why does the bottle need refrigerating?

After 3 months open, refrigeration helps preserve the trace-element mix; unopened bottles don't need it.
