Hikari Bottom Feeder Sinking Wafers

A small, quick-sinking wafer built for small mouths, not big ones. Hikari Bottom Feeder Sinking Wafers are sized and shaped for corydoras, loaches and other small-mouthed bottom dwellers that struggle with a full-size algae wafer, in both freshwater and marine tanks. Sold in 25 g, 50 g and 110 g packs.

Key features
  • Smaller wafer format – approx. 6.5–7.5 mm, sized for corydoras and loaches rather than larger plecos.
  • Whole crushed silkworm pupae included – a protein source these species take to readily, alongside fish meal and krill meal.
  • Higher fat than a straight algae wafer – 9% minimum crude fat reflects the more omnivorous diet of corydoras and loaches versus a pure algae grazer.
  • Rapid, controlled sink rate – reaches the substrate quickly so it's there for bottom feeders before it breaks down.
  • Stabilised vitamin C – L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate resists breakdown in water better than plain ascorbic acid.

Feeding directions

Feed the amount your fish will completely consume within 20 minutes, and remove any uneaten wafer straight after – this stops it breaking down and affecting water quality, which matters more with a smaller, faster-softening wafer like this one than with a larger algae wafer.

Suitable for and not suitable for

Suitable for corydoras, loaches and other small bottom-dwelling fish, in fresh or marine setups. Not the right choice for large plecos, which are better served by a bigger algae wafer they can graze on over a longer period.

Storage

Hikari doesn't publish a shelf life once opened. Keep the pack sealed, in a cool spot out of direct sunlight, and reseal firmly after each use.

Common questions

How is this different from Hikari Algae Wafers?

This wafer is smaller (approx. 6.5–7.5 mm versus 17–18 mm), higher in fat, and includes silkworm pupae – it's built for the smaller mouths and more omnivorous diet of corydoras and loaches rather than larger algae-grazing plecos.

Why does it need to come out after 20 minutes?

It's a smaller, softer wafer than a full algae wafer, so it breaks down faster once wet – leaving it in past that point does more to cloud the water than to feed the fish.

Will this suit my loaches as well as my corydoras?

Yes – it's formulated for bottom feeders generally, corydoras and loaches included.

Is it reef safe?

It's suited to marine bottom feeders, but as with any prepared food, check compatibility with sensitive invertebrates before use in a mixed reef system.
