Hikari Betta Bio-Gold Pellets

A tiny floating pellet sized for one fish's mouth. Hikari Betta Bio-Gold Pellets are a purpose-built daily diet for Siamese fighting fish, shaped so a betta can take each pellet in a single bite, with a colour-enhancing recipe behind the reds and blues bettas are bred for. Sold in 2.5 g and 5 g packs.

Key features
  • Pellet sized for a betta's mouth – approx. 1.1–1.4 mm floating pellets, small enough to take one pellet per bite rather than nibbling a piece into shreds.
  • High protein for a small, active carnivore – 38% minimum crude protein reflects a betta's naturally protein-heavy diet.
  • Colour-enhancing recipe – astaxanthin and spirulina support natural red and blue pigmentation.
  • Floats on the surface – matches a betta's natural surface-feeding habit and makes it easy to see exactly how much is eaten.
  • Stabilised vitamin C – L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate holds up in water better than plain ascorbic acid.

Feeding directions

Feed only what a betta will finish within a couple of minutes, offering pellets individually rather than a pinch at once. As a size guide: bettas under about 3.8 cm (1.5") do best on Hikari's smaller Micro Pellets; bettas from roughly 3.8–4.4 cm (1.5"–1.75") can take three Betta Bio-Gold pellets up to three times a day, adding one extra pellet per further 0.6 cm (¼") of growth, to a maximum of five pellets per feeding. Remove anything left uneaten.

Suitable for and not suitable for

Formulated specifically for bettas and sized accordingly. It isn't sized for community-tank fish that rush mid-water food – a betta housed with fast surface feeders may lose pellets to tankmates before it gets to them.

Storage

Hikari doesn't publish a shelf life once opened. Keep the pack sealed, out of direct sunlight, and reseal after each feed – the small pack size means it's best used up well before long-term air exposure becomes an issue.

Common questions

Why does it float instead of sink?

Bettas feed naturally at the surface, so a floating pellet matches how they hunt and makes it easy to confirm every pellet has been eaten.

How many pellets should I feed at once?

Three pellets up to three times a day suits a betta around 3.8–4.4 cm, adding a pellet for every further 0.6 cm of growth to a maximum of five per feeding – see Feeding directions above for smaller fish.

Does the colour come from artificial dye?

Mostly from astaxanthin and spirulina; the recipe also includes one artificial colour, red 3, listed in the ingredients above.

Can I feed this to other small fish?

It's formulated and pellet-sized specifically for bettas – for other species, a food matched to that species' mouth size and diet is the better choice.
