Mice Fuzzies
The step-up size for juvenile snakes moving on from pinkies. This is a frozen Fuzzy mouse, approximately 3–7 g — a whole-prey feeder for young snakes that have outgrown pinkie mice but aren't ready for a full hopper. Frozen fresh and never previously thawed, it's sold individually and needs full thawing before feeding.
Key features
- Whole prey, not processed — a complete, balanced meal with fur, bone and organs intact.
- Fuzzy size grade — approximately 3–7 g, with a light coat of fur just coming through, the natural next step after pinkies.
- Frozen fresh, not freeze-dried — keeps the natural moisture and nutrition freeze-dried prey loses.
- Consistent sizing within the grade — makes it easier to plan a feeding schedule as your juvenile snake grows.
- Sold individually — buy exactly the number you need.

Which size do I need?
Mouse feeders are graded by weight, not just name. As a general guide, choose a mouse close to the width of the thickest part of your snake's body — if you're unsure, size down rather than up to avoid a difficult feed or regurgitation.
| Size grade | Typical weight | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Pinkie | 1.5–3 g | Hatchling to small juvenile snakes, small lizards |
| Fuzzy | 3–7 g | Juvenile snakes stepping up from pinkies |
| Hopper | 7–13 g | Sub-adult snakes and larger juvenile monitors |
| Adult | 18–30 g | Adult colubrids, smaller pythons and boas, monitors |
| Jumbo | 30 g and up | Larger adult pythons, boas and monitors |
This listing is the Fuzzy grade. We also stock Pinkie, Hopper, Adult and Jumbo mice separately.
Thawing and storage
Keep frozen at -18°C or below until you're ready to feed. Thaw fully before offering — either in the fridge for a couple of hours, or sealed in a bag and submerged in cool water until soft all the way through. Never microwave or use hot water, and never feed a mouse that's still cold or partly frozen in the middle.
Warm to roughly room temperature before offering for the best feeding response. Never refreeze a mouse once it has thawed — if your reptile doesn't take it, discard it.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: juvenile snakes that have outgrown pinkie mice but aren't yet ready for hoppers, plus similarly sized lizards and monitors.
Not suitable for: hatchlings still on pinkies — a fuzzy is a meaningful size jump and may be too large for a very young snake. Also not suitable for herbivorous or insectivorous reptiles.
Common questions
How do I know when to move my snake from pinkies to fuzzies?
Once pinkie mice stop being a satisfying meal — your snake finishes them quickly and still looks for more — it's usually time to size up. Watch your snake's girth rather than a fixed schedule.
My juvenile snake refused a fuzzy mouse — what should I do?
Go back to pinkies for another feed or two before trying again, and check the mouse was fully thawed and warmed. Reptiles that have recently shed or are stressed by a new enclosure often skip a feed regardless of prey size.
Can I refreeze a mouse if my reptile doesn't eat it?
No — once thawed, a mouse must be fed or discarded. Refreezing thawed prey is a food-safety risk.
Is whole prey better than processed reptile food?
For obligate carnivores, whole prey provides a complete, balanced diet — bones for calcium, organs for micronutrients, and fur for roughage — that's difficult to replicate in a processed food.
