A fine, membrane-protected egg diet for the smallest mouths in the tank.

Ocean Nutrition Frozen Marine Fish Eggs are whole marine fish eggs, 0.6–0.8 mm across, each protected by its natural membrane so very little leaches into the water on thawing. Sold frozen in a 100 g blister pack, they suit small reef fish, shrimp, other invertebrates, and fry too small for larger frozen foods.

Key features
  • Naturally small — 0.6–0.8 mm eggs sized for fry and nano fish.
  • Membrane-protected — the natural egg membrane limits nutrient leaching into the water column compared with minced foods.
  • Rich in HUFAs — naturally high in ARA, EPA and DHA.
  • Useful weaning food — a common bridge for moving fish off live food and onto prepared foods.
  • Single ingredient — marine fish eggs, nothing added.

Suitable for — and not suitable for

Suitable for small reef fish, shrimp and other invertebrates, fry, and nano species that need a fine particle size, plus corals that will take fine particulate food. A useful weaning food when moving a fish off live feed.

Not suitable as a sole diet for larger or more active predatory fish — the low protein density relative to whole-prey foods like our Lance Fish makes this a supplement or weaning food, not a staple for big eaters.

Feeding directions

Feed 2 to 5 times a day, offering only what will be eaten within 5 minutes.

Thawing, storage and cold chain

Thaw a portion in a small container of aquarium water, then feed once fully thawed. Never refreeze thawed food. Keep the unopened pack frozen between uses, and carry it home in an insulated bag on a hot day so it doesn't begin thawing in transit.

Goes well with

Pair with Micro Plankton for a fine-particle rotation aimed at filter feeders and corals, and use a pipette or turkey baster for precise, low-mess dosing to fry or shy feeders.

Warranty and delivery

As a frozen perishable food, this product is covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law relating to acceptable quality on arrival, in addition to any manufacturer assurance. It is sold and shipped frozen — keep it cold on the way home and into your freezer promptly.

Common questions

Will this cloud my water?

Leaching is minimal because the membrane around each egg stays intact until it's eaten, but as with any frozen food, dose lightly and remove uneaten portions.

Can I use this to wean fry off live food?

Yes — the small egg size and natural texture make it a common bridge food between live and prepared diets.

Is this suitable for shrimp?

Yes, the manufacturer lists shrimp and other invertebrates among the species this food suits.

How is it different from Micro Plankton?

Marine Fish Eggs is pure fish roe at 0.6–0.8 mm; Micro Plankton is a rotifer, cockle and algae blend aimed more at filter feeders and corals. Choose based on what's eating it.

Do I need to rinse it before feeding?

Not for most tanks — thawing in a little tank water and feeding straight after is enough.
