Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for small to medium freshwater fish, including juveniles and fish with smaller mouths, thanks to the soft, transparent body of the larvae.
- Not a complete standalone diet for long-term feeding — best rotated with a flake, pellet or other frozen food.
How to thaw and feed
Thaw a portion in a little tank water, then add the thawed larvae to the tank. Ocean Nutrition's own guidance is that thawed frozen food can only be safely refrozen if it still contains ice crystals, or is cold to the touch and has been kept below 7°C for under two hours — once it has thawed fully and warmed past that, feed it or discard it, never refreeze it. Keep the pack frozen between feeds, and if it starts to soften in transit on a hot day, move it to your own freezer as soon as it arrives.
Warranty and delivery
As a frozen product this pack ships and must be stored frozen. There's no manufacturer warranty on a food item as such — the applicable guarantee is the consumer guarantee under Australian Consumer Law that the food is of acceptable quality and matches its description. Keep it frozen until use.
Common questions
Will this feed my fry?
Yes — the soft, transparent larvae are sized for small mouths, which makes this one of the more fry-friendly frozen foods in the range.
Can I feed this alongside flake or pellet food?
Yes. It's best used as a variety food alongside a staple flake or pellet, not as the sole diet.
How much should I feed?
Only what your fish will finish within about 5 minutes, 2 to 5 times a day. Remove any uneaten food so it doesn't foul the water.
Can I refreeze a thawed portion?
Only if it still has ice crystals or has stayed below 7°C for under two hours. Once it's fully thawed and warmed past that, feed it or throw it out.
