Retailer listings disagree on the exact LED diode count for this fixture (13 versus 14 individual LEDs) and on power lead length (10 ft versus 20 ft/6.1 m figures both appear), so those two numbers are left out here rather than guessed - check the fixture or packaging if you need them precisely.

PAR at depth

Aqua Illumination don't publish a PAR-at-depth chart for the Prime Fuge, and we couldn't find one from independent testing either. That's not an oversight on our part - this fixture isn't sold or tested on PAR output, because it isn't designed to grow coral. If PAR numbers matter for your build, this isn't the light to base that decision on.

Suitable for / not suitable for

Suitable for growing macroalgae such as chaetomorpha in a sump or refugium chamber, as part of a nutrient export setup.

  • Not suitable as your main display tank light - this is a macroalgae spectrum, not a coral-growth spectrum, and running it over a display with coral is not something Aqua Illumination design or test it for
  • Not a substitute for the Prime 16 HD or another reef-spectrum fixture if you want to light and grow coral
Goes well with

Most refugiums sit under a hood or cabinet with limited clearance, so the AI Hanging Kit or AI Flex Arm are the practical way to mount this above an open sump section. Both are sold separately.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Aqua Illumination's standard one-year manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. Register the light directly with Aqua Illumination within 30 days of purchase to activate full warranty cover, and keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Common questions

Can I use this to grow coral?

No. The Prime Fuge is tuned for macroalgae, not coral photosynthesis, and Aqua Illumination don't publish PAR or spectrum data that would support using it as a coral-growth light. If you want a light for a display tank with coral, look at the Prime 16 HD or another reef-spectrum AI fixture instead.

What will grow under this light?

It's designed around the red and white wavelengths macroalgae such as chaetomorpha use for photosynthesis, which is the standard nutrient-export macroalgae for reef refugiums.

Can I run it on the opposite schedule to my display tank?

Yes. Many reefers run the refugium light on a reversed photoperiod to the display, which helps stabilise pH and dissolved oxygen swings overnight. The myAI app schedules the Prime Fuge independently of any other AI fixture.

Does it need a controller like an Apex to run?

No. It runs standalone from the myAI app on a phone or tablet over Bluetooth. Apex/Fusion integration is available if you already run one, but isn't required.

Will it fit over my refugium?

The fixture itself is 12.4 x 12.4 cm (4.88 x 4.88 in), small enough to sit over most standard sump refugium sections. Mounting height and hardware depend on your sump's clearance - see the mounting options above.
