Red Sea Marine Care Phosphate Test Kit

Catch phosphate before it becomes algae. The Red Sea Marine Care Phosphate Test Kit measures PO4 in marine and reef aquariums to 0.1 ppm resolution — the nutrient that feeds nuisance algae long before it's visible on the glass.

Key features
  • 100 tests per kit — enough for close to two years of weekly testing on one system.
  • 0.1 ppm resolution — fine enough to catch phosphate creeping up before algae does.
  • Dilution step extends the range — readings above 1 ppm are diluted and multiplied, covering roughly up to 17 ppm without a separate high-range kit.
  • Colour-card comparison — no equipment beyond the kit itself.
  • Links directly to Red Sea's algae-control dosing — the reading tells you how hard to dose, not just that there's a problem.

Which Red Sea phosphate kit do I need?

This kit covers the range most marine and reef tanks actually sit in. If you're running an ultra-low-nutrient reef and need to resolve readings well under 0.1 ppm, Red Sea's Phosphate Pro kit is built for that finer end — most tanks with any visible nuisance algae don't need it yet.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: marine and reef aquariums.
  • Not suitable for: Red Sea markets this kit for marine use — it is not intended for freshwater testing.
What to do with the result

A rising phosphate reading is your earliest warning of a nutrient problem — well before algae shows up on the glass or rock. Red Sea's guidance pairs phosphate testing with nitrate testing and ties elevated readings to dosing NO3:PO4-X, its biological nitrate and phosphate reducer.

Care and storage

Reagents are stable up to the date printed on the pack when stored closed between 15°C and 25°C, out of direct sun.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping across Australia.

Common questions

How often should I test phosphate?

Weekly is the usual routine on an established reef, and more often if you're actively dosing a phosphate reducer and want to track the trend.

Does this kit include a calibration solution?

No — the kit is a reagent-and-comparison-card test, not a calibrated meter, so no separate reference standard is included.

My reading is off the chart — what do I do?

Use the kit's dilution step: dilute the sample as directed, retest, and multiply the result by the dilution factor to get the true reading.

Will phosphate testing tell me why I have algae?

It tells you whether nutrient level is a likely driver. Algae can also be light- or flow-related, so a normal phosphate reading doesn't rule out every cause — but an elevated one is usually the first thing to fix.

Can I use this on a freshwater tank?

Red Sea markets this kit for marine use. It is not intended for freshwater testing.
