Red Sea MAX S Main Pump 7000 Impeller

Genuine Red Sea impeller to stop a rattling, underperforming MAX S return pump. This is the factory replacement impeller for the Red Sea MAX S Main Pump 7000 — the main return pump fitted to MAX S-400, S-500 and S-650 systems. A worn or calcified impeller is the most common reason a MAX S pump gets noisy or loses flow before the motor itself ever fails.

Key features
  • Genuine Red Sea part R50471 — the correct impeller for the MAX S Main Pump 7000, not a generic equivalent.
  • Cures rattle and vibration caused by a worn or coralline-encrusted impeller.
  • Restores rated flow to the pump's designed 7,000 L/h output at zero head.
  • DIY service part — swaps in during a routine pump clean without removing the pump housing from the sump.

Will it fit my pump?

This impeller is specific to the MAX S Main Pump 7000 — the main return pump built into every MAX S-400, S-500 and S-650 system. It is not the impeller used in the MAX S circulation pumps, the MAX E or MAX Nano pumps, or the ReefRun range. If your pump housing isn't marked "7000" or you're unsure which pump is fitted, check against the part diagram in your system's manual before ordering.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: a MAX S Main Pump 7000 that's rattling, vibrating, running louder than usual, or delivering visibly less return flow than when new.
  • Not suitable for: a pump that has stopped completely — check the motor and capacitor first, since a seized motor won't be fixed by a new impeller.
Care and maintenance

Marine systems calcify impellers faster than freshwater ones. Pull the impeller and clean coralline and calcium build-up off the shaft and magnet at every filter service, rather than waiting for a rattle to appear — it's the build-up, not age, that wears the shaft bearing early.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Red Sea's standard spare parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships from Nick's Aquarium Oceanarium Terrarium, North Lakes.

Common questions

How do I know if it's the impeller and not the pump motor?

A rattle, a whine, or reduced flow with the motor still spinning normally usually points to the impeller. A pump that hums but doesn't spin, or doesn't respond at all, points to the motor or capacitor instead.

How often should I replace the impeller?

Red Sea doesn't publish a fixed interval — it depends on water chemistry and how often the pump is cleaned. Keeping a spare on hand is the practical approach, since a return pump is the one part a reef system can't be without overnight.

Do I need to drain the sump to fit it?

No. The pump housing lifts clear of the sump for servicing; the impeller then pulls straight out of the housing.
