Red Sea Nano ReefMat Drive Unit and Sensor
The genuine repair for a Nano ReefMat that's stopped advancing. This is the factory drive unit and sensor assembly for the Red Sea Nano ReefMat (sold by Red Sea globally as the NanoMat) — the complete drive-side repair when a roller has stopped advancing, advances erratically, or won't respond to a loaded fleece section.
Key features
- Genuine Red Sea part R35493 — factory drive unit and sensor assembly, not a generic substitute.
- Combines both wear points — the drive motor and the dual sensor pair — in one assembly, since a fault in either usually presents the same way.
- Direct-fit replacement — swaps in on the existing Nano ReefMat / NanoMat housing.
- Low-voltage part — the drive motor runs on 12 V DC, supplied from the unit's existing plugpack.

Will it fit my unit?
This assembly is specific to the Nano ReefMat / NanoMat. It is not the drive unit used on Red Sea's larger ReefMat 250, 500 or 1200 roller filters, which use a different motor and sensor assembly sold separately. Check that your unit is the compact nano model — sized for a standard 4-inch filter sock holder — before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: a Nano ReefMat that has stopped advancing, advances at the wrong time, or runs continuously without stopping.
- Not suitable for: the larger ReefMat 250, 500 or 1200 — those use a different drive assembly.
Care and maintenance
Before assuming the drive unit has failed, wipe down the two sensor tips at the top of the filter chamber — a film of algae or salt creep on the titanium tips is the most common cause of erratic advancing, and cleaning it fixes the fault without replacing any parts.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's standard spare parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships from Nick's Aquarium Oceanarium Terrarium, North Lakes.
Common questions
How do I know if it's the sensor or the drive motor?
You often can't tell from the symptom alone — a roller that won't advance can be either a fouled sensor or a worn motor, which is why Red Sea supplies them as one assembly rather than two separate spares.
Should I clean the sensors before ordering this part?
Yes — wipe the sensor tips first. It's the more common fault and costs nothing to rule out before fitting a new assembly.
Does this fit the ReefMat 500?
No. The ReefMat 500 and 1200 use a separate drive unit, sold as its own spare part.
