Reef Pure Reverse Osmosis Membrane

The membrane that does the actual filtering in an RO/DI system. This is a Pure-Pro TW30-1812 thin-film composite (TFC) reverse osmosis membrane, sold by Reef Pure in the standard 1812 housing size, in 50 GPD and 200 GPD production ratings. It rejects at least 96% of dissolved solids from tap water (98% typical), turning ordinary tap water into the low-TDS feed a reef tank or a DI stage needs to finish properly.

Key features
  • Thin-film composite construction — the same membrane technology used across quality residential and aquarium RO units.
  • 96% minimum salt rejection (98% typical), tested at 80 psi feed pressure.
  • Standard 1812 housing fit — 298 mm long, 22 mm diameter — drops into any RO housing built to that common size.
  • Two production ratings — 50 GPD for smaller systems, 200 GPD where you need water faster or are feeding a larger system.

Which rating do I need?
Rating SKU Production at 80 psi Price
50 GPD AA0563 50 GPD (approx. 7.9 L/h) $49.95
200 GPD AA0562 200 GPD (approx. 31.5 L/h) $149.95

Both figures are the manufacturer's rating at 80 psi feed pressure and 25°C on 250 ppm test water — actual output on your tap water will vary with your household water pressure and temperature, and typically falls as the membrane ages. Reef Pure doesn't publish a full pressure-versus-output curve, only the single 80 psi test figure, so treat these numbers as a guide rather than a guarantee.

Will it fit my setup?

Any RO housing built to the standard 1812 size (298 mm x 22 mm) will take this membrane — it's a like-for-like replacement for most household and aquarium RO units of that size, not just Reef Pure's own systems.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: mains tap water feed, freshwater or marine end use — the membrane doesn't know or care what the water is destined for.
  • Not suitable for: feed water above 45°C, feed pressure above 100 psi, or chlorinated water above 0.1 ppm without pre-filtration — chlorine will damage the membrane.
Care and maintenance

Keep the membrane wet at all times once it's been wetted — Reef Pure warns against letting it dry out, which damages the thin-film layer permanently. Discard the first 45 minutes of permeate after fitting a new membrane before using the water. Reef Pure doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval; monitor your permeate TDS and replace once rejection noticeably drops.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by the manufacturer against faults in materials and workmanship, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping — both ratings are small, light items with no special freight requirements.

Common questions

What's the difference between the 50 GPD and 200 GPD versions?

Production rate only — both are the same TW30-1812 membrane technology with the same 96% minimum rejection. The 200 GPD version simply produces water faster, which suits larger systems or households wanting quicker refill.

Will I actually get 50 (or 200) gallons a day?

That figure is the manufacturer's rating at 80 psi and 25°C on standard test water. Real-world output depends on your household water pressure and temperature and will typically be lower if your mains pressure is under 80 psi.

Does this fit my existing RO unit?

If your housing is the standard 1812 size (298 mm x 22 mm) — the most common size in household and aquarium RO units — yes.

Do I need to do anything before first use?

Discard the first 45 minutes of permeate after installation, and never let the membrane dry out once it's been wetted.
