Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Blades 3 pack
A blunt blade turns a two-minute job into ten. These are the genuine Seachem replacement metal blades for the Seachem Algae Scraper, three to a pack. The metal blade is the tool's heavy edge – it shears hard green spot algae and coralline off aquarium glass in one pass, where the plastic blade and the soft pad are still working at it. Seachem lists this refill as fitting scraper models 3207 (31 cm) and 3208 (46 cm).
Key features
- Three metal blades per pack – blades are a wear item, and a fresh edge is what stops you leaning on the glass
- Glass aquariums only – Seachem states the metal blade is not for use on acrylic
- Slides into the removable cartridge – no tools, and the scraper head never has to come apart
- Retracts into the head – the blade hides inside the scraper between cleans, so nothing sits edge-up in the maintenance bucket
- Reversible cartridge – load a metal blade at one end and a soft pad at the other, then flip mid-clean

Which refill do I need?
The scraper takes three working surfaces, and they differ in what they will safely touch.
| Refill | Use on | Best at |
|---|---|---|
| Metal blades, 3 pack | Glass only | Hard green spot algae and coralline |
| Soft pads, 3 pack | Glass and acrylic | Film algae, and algae sitting in shallow scratches |
| Replacement cartridge | Glass; built-in plastic blade generally safe on acrylic with light pressure | Replacing the worn housing itself |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: glass aquariums · hard green spot algae and coralline · freshwater and marine tanks · owners of the 31 cm or 46 cm Seachem Algae Scraper.
Not suitable for: acrylic aquariums, where a metal blade leaves permanent scratches · the 15 cm Seachem Algae Scraper (model 3199), which Seachem does not list among the fitments for this refill · silicone seams, which any blade can cut.
Care and maintenance
- Rinse in fresh water and dry the blade after every clean, especially after marine use
- Check the edge for trapped sand before each pass – one grain caught under a blade scores glass in a straight line
- Replace as soon as the edge drags rather than cuts, because a worn blade needs pressure and pressure is what scratches
Goes well with
- Seachem Algae Scraper – the tool this refill fits
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Pads – the acrylic-safe surface to load at the other end of the cartridge
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Cartridge – for when the housing is worn, not just the blade
- The full Seachem range – media, treatments and spares
Warranty and delivery
Blades are a consumable and carry no separate manufacturer warranty term. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless and cannot be excluded. Ships as a standard parcel.
Common questions
Which Seachem Algae Scraper do these blades fit?
Seachem lists this metal blade refill as fitting the 31 cm (model 3207) and 46 cm (model 3208) Algae Scrapers. It is not listed for the 15 cm scraper, model 3199.
Can I use a Seachem metal blade on an acrylic tank?
No. Seachem states the metal blade is not for use on acrylic. Use the soft pad refill instead, or the plastic blade built into the cartridge with light pressure.
How do I change the blade?
Slide the cartridge out of the scraper head, seat the new blade in the cartridge, and slide it back in. There are no tools and no screws.
How often should the blade be replaced?
Seachem does not publish an interval. Replace on feel: when a patch needs a second or third pass, the edge has gone.
