Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Pads 3 pack
The only surface on the scraper you can lean on an acrylic tank with. These are the genuine Seachem replacement soft pads for the Seachem Algae Scraper, three to a pack. A pad works differently to a blade: it does not shear algae off, it wipes it away – which is why it reaches into shallow scratches a rigid edge simply bridges over. Seachem supplies these pads for the removable scraper cartridge used in the 31 cm and 46 cm models.
Key features
- Three soft pads per pack – the surface that loads up with algae fastest, so the one worth having spares of
- Acrylic-safe – the recommended surface for acrylic tanks, where the metal blade cannot be used at all
- Cleans inside shallow scratches – a pad conforms to the surface, so algae sitting in an old scratch comes out instead of staying put
- Works on glass too – for everyday film algae a pad is quicker than a blade and puts no pressure on the silicone
- Seats in the reversible cartridge – pair a pad at one end with a metal blade at the other and flip as you work

Which refill do I need?
The scraper takes three working surfaces, and they differ in what they will safely touch.
| Refill | Use on | Best at |
|---|---|---|
| Metal blades, 3 pack | Glass only | Hard green spot algae and coralline |
| Soft pads, 3 pack | Glass and acrylic | Film algae, and algae sitting in shallow scratches |

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: acrylic aquariums and acrylic sumps · soft green film algae and diatoms · tanks with existing scratches that trap algae · freshwater and marine · owners of the 31 cm or 46 cm Seachem Algae Scraper.
Not suitable for: hard coralline or baked-on green spot algae, which needs the metal blade on glass · the 15 cm Seachem Algae Scraper, which Seachem does not list among the fitments · use as a general-purpose sponge outside the scraper cartridge.
Care and maintenance
- Rinse the pad in tank water or fresh water after each clean and let it dry – a damp pad left in a bucket sours quickly
- Never let a pad pick up sand or gravel; grit trapped in the foam is what puts new scratches in acrylic
- Replace when the pad glazes over or stops gripping, rather than pressing harder
- Keep pads used in a treated or medicated tank separate from your other gear
Goes well with
- Seachem Algae Scraper – the tool these pads fit
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Blades – the glass-only metal edge for the hard stuff
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Cartridge – the housing the pads seat into
- The full Seachem range – media, treatments and spares
Warranty and delivery
Pads are a consumable and carry no separate manufacturer warranty term. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless and cannot be excluded. Ships as a standard parcel.
Common questions
Are Seachem soft pads safe on an acrylic aquarium?
Yes. Seachem positions the soft pad as the recommended surface for acrylic tanks, where the metal blade must not be used. Keep grit out of the pad and the acrylic stays unmarked.
Will a soft pad clean algae out of a scratch?
Yes, from shallow ones. The pad conforms to the surface and lifts algae from inside a shallow scratch, where a rigid blade rides straight over the top.
Which scrapers do these pads fit?
They seat in the removable cartridge used by the 31 cm and 46 cm Seachem Algae Scraper. Seachem does not list them for the 15 cm model.
How long does a pad last?
Seachem does not publish a life. Replace when the pad glazes over, stops gripping, or has picked up grit – pressing harder on a spent pad is how acrylic gets damaged.
Can I use a pad instead of a blade on glass?
For routine film algae, yes, and it is gentler on silicone seams. For hard green spot algae or coralline on glass, the metal blade is the tool that will actually shift it.
