Seachem Tidal 110 Hangon Filter 415L
Crystal-clear water for big tanks, without canister-filter hassle. The Seachem Tidal 110 is the largest of the Tidal range – a self-priming hang-on-back aquarium filter rated for tanks up to 400 litres, turning over up to 2000 litres per hour on just 10 watts. Designed by Seachem and built by Italian pump specialists Sicce, it suits both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
Key features
- Self-priming pump – no filling, siphon-starting or babysitting at startup or after a power cut
- Bottom-to-top flow – water is pushed up through the media basket so it must pass through all your media, not around it
- No proprietary cartridges – a 3.2 L basket takes any media in any configuration, with Seachem Matrix bio-media included
- Surface skimmer and telescoping intake – skims oily film from the surface while the adjustable intake draws from any depth
- Dual flow control – a front dial adjusts pump output, a side dial balances skimming against sub-surface intake
- Maintenance alert – clogged media redirects water and pops up a blue indicator, with built-in overflow prevention
- Drip-free cleaning – the basket lifts out and snaps into the lid for the trip to the sink
- Self-cleaning corrosion-resistant impeller – safe in marine and freshwater
- Levelling dial and heater holder – sits square on different tank styles and mounts a heater in the outflow for even heat dispersal

Running cost assumes continuous operation at 30c per kWh. At roughly $26 a year, the Tidal 110 costs about half a cent a day to run.
Will it fit my tank?
Three measurements decide it, and they catch people out more often than the flow rate does.
- 9.5 cm behind the tank – the filter hangs off the back and needs that gap to the wall
- 3.5 cm of clear rim – braced or heavily trimmed tanks may need a section of hood trim removed
- 5 cm inside the tank – for the intake and the return
Which Tidal do I need?
| Model | Rated tank | Flow | Power | Media basket |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tidal 35 | Up to 130 L | 500 L/h | 5 W | 0.7 L |
| Tidal 55 | Up to 200 L | 1000 L/h | 5 W | 1.2 L |
| Tidal 75 | Up to 300 L | 1500 L/h | 7 W | 1.9 L |
| Tidal 110 | Up to 400 L | 2000 L/h | 10 W | 3.2 L |
Rated volumes assume moderate stocking. Heavily stocked tanks, messy eaters and large cichlids all warrant sizing up a model.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: freshwater and marine aquariums up to 400 L · community, cichlid and planted tanks · anyone who wants canister-level media capacity without the plumbing · tanks with 9.5 cm of clearance behind them.
Not suitable for: rimless tanks with no usable rim · tanks pushed flush against a wall · sumped systems, where a return pump is the better answer · very small tanks, where 2000 L/h will blow the stock around.
In the box

- Heater holder
- Telescoping intake pipe
- Levelling dial
- Foam filter
- Seachem Matrix bio-media
- Instruction manual
Care and maintenance
- Rinse the foam in tank water, never tap water – chlorine kills the bacteria colony you are trying to keep
- Matrix bio-media does not need replacing; a gentle rinse in tank water is all it wants
- Clean the impeller well every few months, more often in hard water
- When the blue maintenance indicator pops up, the media is clogging and water is bypassing it
Goes well with
- Seachem Matrix – more bio-media for the 3.2 L basket
- Seachem Prime – the conditioner that protects the bacteria this filter houses
- Seachem Tidal Replacement Impeller – the first thing to replace if it ever goes noisy
Warranty and delivery
Three years against defects in materials and workmanship, impeller excluded, extendable to five years by registering the filter with Seachem. This is in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which cannot be excluded.
240 V / 50 Hz with a standard Australian plug. Ships as a standard parcel.
Common questions
Does the Seachem Tidal 110 need priming?
No. It is self-priming, so it starts itself without filling the basket or starting a siphon, and it restarts on its own after a power cut.
How much clearance do I need behind the tank?
9.5 cm to the wall, plus 3.5 cm of clear rim for it to hang on. Measure both before ordering.
Can I use it on a marine tank?
Yes. The impeller is corrosion-resistant and the filter is rated for freshwater and marine.
Do I have to buy Seachem cartridges for it?
No, and that is one of the main reasons to choose it. The 3.2 L basket takes any media in any configuration.
What does it cost to run?
About $26 a year at 10 W continuous and 30c per kWh – roughly half a cent a day.
