Zoo Med Insect Bearded Dragon Food Adult 4.5oz/127gm
A lighter-protein pellet for a dragon whose diet has already grown up. Zoo Med Adult Bearded Dragon Food is a pelleted staple formulated for bearded dragons over roughly 25 cm, once feeding should shift away from the high-protein, insect-heavy diet of a juvenile toward a lighter, more plant-forward maintenance ration. This 127 g (4.5 oz) tub is sized for a single dragon's ongoing staple feeding, moistened and offered alongside fresh greens.
Key features
- Lower protein than the Juvenile formula — 16% minimum, matched to an adult's slower growth so pellets support condition rather than pushing unnecessary weight gain.
- Calcium-forward mineral base — calcium carbonate, dicalcium and monocalcium phosphate keep calcium ahead of phosphorus, working alongside (not instead of) a dusted-insect and UVB routine.
- Stabilised Vitamin C — L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate holds up through pelleting better than plain ascorbic acid.
- Five fermentation-product probiotics — Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Enterococcus faecium and Aspergillus oryzae fermentation products.
- 127 g (4.5 oz) resealable tub — works out to about $19.65 per 100 g at the current price.

Feeding
Moisten pellets with water to form a soft mash — most dragons take the softened pellet far more readily than the dry form. Offer daily as the staple alongside a majority-greens salad; for an adult, live insects become the occasional treat rather than a daily component. Moving a dragon over from the Juvenile formula works best mixed in gradually over a week or two rather than switched in one sitting.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: adult bearded dragons, roughly 25 cm and up, as a daily pelleted staple alongside fresh greens and UVB exposure.
- Not suitable for: hatchling or juvenile dragons, whose higher protein needs are better met by the Juvenile formula; other reptile species without checking their own protein and calcium requirements first.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law in addition to any manufacturer undertakings. Standard shipping from Brisbane / North Lakes; no special freight handling required.
Common questions
Do I still need to dust insects with calcium if I feed this?
Yes. This pellet is calcium-forward, but any live insects in the diet still need dusting at the frequency your vet or care sheet recommends — the pellet supports the diet, it doesn't replace supplementation for the insect portion.
Why is the protein level lower than the Juvenile formula?
An adult dragon's growth has largely finished, so the extra protein a juvenile needs to grow is no longer useful and can contribute to excess weight. This formula runs 16% minimum protein against 24% in the Juvenile version.
Can I feed this dry, straight from the tub?
Zoo Med's own guidance is to moisten the pellets with water into a mash first — most dragons accept it far better this way, and it's a useful route for transitioning a dragon that's fussy about pellets.
How do I know when to switch a growing dragon onto this formula?
Zoo Med sizes the switch at roughly 25 cm snout-to-vent, which is a reasonable guide, but condition and age matter too — ask your reptile vet if you're unsure.
