Suitable for reptiles that need strong UVB, such as desert species, in enclosures where the animal sits further from the tube or the tube sits above a screen cover. Not a heat source, so pair it with a basking lamp. Where the animal can get close to the tube, the ReptiSun T8 5.0 may suit better.

Do not put glass or plastic between the tube and the animal, as both block UVB. UVB fades before the visible light does, so Zoo Med says to date the tube and replace it a year later.

Switch off and unplug the fixture before changing the tube, and let it cool. The tube contains mercury, so take it to a lamp or fluorescent recycling drop-off rather than the household bin.
