Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Foam (6 Pack)
Stop debris before it reaches the rest of the filter. This is the mechanical-stage replacement media for the Bioscape Tropic "Easy Clean" 80 Hang-On Filter (320 L/h, model BIS531) — a six-pack of filter foam that catches suspended particles and protects the carbon and bio-media stages behind it.
Key features
- Open-cell foam — traps floating debris and fish waste before it clogs the finer media downstream.
- First stage — water is drawn through this pad before it reaches the carbon and bio-ball stages.
- Six-pack — the fastest-wearing of the three media types, so it's supplied in the largest pack.
- Rinse-and-reuse — can be cleaned several times in tank water before it needs replacing.

Which filter stage do I need?
The Easy Clean 80 runs water through three stages in the one cartridge housing. Replace whichever stage is due, rather than the whole set:
| Stage | Media | What it removes | Typical service life |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Mechanical | Filter foam (BIS531A) | Suspended debris and floating particles | Rinse in tank water at each service; replace once it's compacting or breaking apart — as a general guide, every four to six weeks |
| 2 — Chemical | Carbon cartridge (BIS531B) | Odours, discolouration, dissolved organics | Replace on a schedule, not a rinse — as a general guide, every three to four weeks, once the carbon is saturated |
| 3 — Biological | Bio balls (BIS531C) | Ammonia and nitrite, via colonising bacteria | Long life — rinse gently in tank water only, replace solely if physically broken |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Easy Clean 80 hang-on filter (320 L/h, BIS531) in freshwater or marine aquariums of 38–75 L. Not suitable for the 160 L/h or 450 L/h Easy Clean models. Foam alone won't control odour or ammonia — pair it with the carbon and bio-ball stages for full filtration.
Care and maintenance
Rinse in removed tank water at each service — this is the media you'll clean most often, since it catches the bulk of the debris. As a general guide, expect to replace the pad roughly every four to six weeks once it's compacting or starting to break apart, rather than to a fixed date.
Goes well with
- Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Bio Balls (1 Pack) — the biological stage further down the cascade.
- Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Carbon Cartridge (2 Pack) — the chemical stage this pad protects.

Common questions
How often should I rinse versus replace the foam?
Rinse it every time you service the filter. Replace it once it's compacted, torn or falling apart — usually every four to six weeks in an established tank.
Will this fit my other Bioscape filter?
Only the Easy Clean 80 (320 L/h, BIS531). The 160 L/h and 450 L/h Easy Clean models use differently sized cartridges.
Does the foam remove ammonia?
No — this is the mechanical stage, catching debris only. Ammonia and nitrite are handled by the bio balls further along the cascade.
Can I run the filter with just the foam stage fitted?
You can in an emergency, but you'll lose the chemical and biological filtration — refit the carbon and bio balls as soon as you can.
