Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Carbon Cartridge (2 Pack)
Clear the water and the smell, not just the debris. This is the chemical-stage replacement media for the Bioscape Tropic "Easy Clean" 80 Hang-On Filter (320 L/h, model BIS531) — a two-pack of activated carbon cartridges that pull dissolved odours, discolouration and organics out of the water column.
Key features
- Activated carbon — adsorbs dissolved organics, tannins and odour-causing compounds that mechanical media can't catch.
- Cartridge format — pre-loaded and sealed, no loose carbon to handle or rinse in.
- Two-pack — one in use, one ready for the next change.
- Middle stage — sits between the mechanical foam and the biological bio balls in the filter's cascade.

Which filter stage do I need?
The Easy Clean 80 runs water through three stages in the one cartridge housing. Replace whichever stage is due, rather than the whole set:
| Stage | Media | What it removes | Typical service life |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 — Mechanical | Filter foam (BIS531A) | Suspended debris and floating particles | Rinse in tank water at each service; replace once it's compacting or breaking apart — as a general guide, every four to six weeks |
| 2 — Chemical | Carbon cartridge (BIS531B) | Odours, discolouration, dissolved organics | Replace on a schedule, not a rinse — as a general guide, every three to four weeks, once the carbon is saturated |
| 3 — Biological | Bio balls (BIS531C) | Ammonia and nitrite, via colonising bacteria | Long life — rinse gently in tank water only, replace solely if physically broken |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Easy Clean 80 hang-on filter (320 L/h, BIS531) in freshwater or marine aquariums of 38–75 L. Not suitable for the 160 L/h or 450 L/h Easy Clean models. Not a substitute for the biological stage — carbon doesn't process ammonia or nitrite.
Care and maintenance
Activated carbon has a limited working life. As a general guide across the hobby — not a Bioscape-specific figure — carbon is considered exhausted after roughly three to four weeks, once its surface is saturated with dissolved organics. At that point it stops adsorbing and can start releasing what it's captured back into the water, so this is a genuine "replace", not a "rinse", media.
Goes well with
- Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Bio Balls (1 Pack) — the biological stage that follows this media.
- Bioscape 320L/h Hanging Filter Replacement Foam (6 Pack) — the mechanical prefilter that protects this media from clogging early.

Common questions
How do I know when the carbon needs changing?
There's no visual cue like browning foam — carbon looks the same exhausted as it does fresh. Work on a roughly three-to-four-week cycle rather than waiting for a sign.
Does carbon remove medication from the tank?
Yes — activated carbon will strip most fish medications from the water, so remove the cartridge before dosing and only fit a fresh one once the treatment course is finished.
Will this fit my other Bioscape filter?
Only the Easy Clean 80 (320 L/h, BIS531). The 160 L/h and 450 L/h Easy Clean models use differently sized cartridges.
Can I rinse and reuse a carbon cartridge?
No — once saturated, carbon doesn't regenerate by rinsing. Replace it rather than reusing it.
