Dragon Rock 15kg Box
A 15 kg box of dragon stone for a full aquascape hardscape. Bioscape Dragon Rock is a lightweight, deeply pitted ohko-style stone in brown and red-brown tones, sold here as a 15 kg box of mixed pieces – enough to build the main structure of a display tank rather than top up an existing one.
Key features
- Deeply textured, honeycomb surface – the pitted, cave-like texture that makes dragon stone (also called ohko stone) one of aquascaping's most recognisable rocks.
- Inert once washed – doesn't shed minerals into the water, so it has minimal effect on pH once rinsed; unlike calcareous rock, it won't push KH and GH up over time.
- Genuinely lightweight for its size – porous and light relative to solid rock of the same volume, which matters when you're stacking a tall structure on a glass floor.
- Crevices suit moss, anubias and fern attachment, and give shrimp and small fish places to shelter.
- 15 kg box of mixed pieces – sizes and shapes vary, so you get enough variety to build ledges, caves and ridgelines rather than one repeated shape.

Bioscape doesn't publish a piece count or individual piece dimensions for the box – pieces are picked and packed by weight, and shape and size vary. We're not printing figures we can't confirm.
Also sold by the piece
If you only need one stone – to finish a layout or replace a piece – Dragon Rock is also sold individually. This 15 kg box is for building a full hardscape from scratch.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater aquascapes, planted tanks and shrimp tanks, and for terrariums and reptile or frog enclosures, where a lightweight, heavily textured stone is wanted for structure. Dragon stone is marketed and sold as a freshwater aquascaping stone – Bioscape doesn't publish marine or reef-tank guidance for it, so we're not making that claim here.
Preparation
Scrub and rinse every piece under running water until it runs clear before it goes in the tank. The crevices trap clay dust and quarry sediment, and a jet of water through the holes clears far more than a quick dunk. The stone itself is inert, but organic matter and dust left unwashed in the pockets can affect water clarity and pH in the first weeks.
Care and maintenance
Once established, dragon stone needs no ongoing treatment. Avoid chemical cleaners on it during routine maintenance, and avoid heavy scrubbing once biofilm and moss have established – that patina is part of what gives an aged aquascape its look.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against being not as described under Australian Consumer Law. As a natural product, the exact pieces you receive will vary from the listing photo in shape, colour and size split – that's expected, not a fault. This is a 15 kg box, so factor the weight into how you plan to carry and place it.
Common questions
Will 15 kg be enough for my tank?
It depends on the scale of the structure and how dense a look you want. Bioscape doesn't publish a coverage figure for this box, but as a general guide, one box comfortably builds a full hardscape in a small-to-medium tank; a large tank or a dense, multi-layered layout often uses two or more boxes.
Will this raise my water hardness?
No, not directly – dragon stone is inert and doesn't shed minerals into the water. Any pH movement usually comes from sediment or organic matter trapped in the crevices, which thorough rinsing before use largely prevents.
Is it safe for shrimp and soft-water fish?
Yes. Unlike calcareous rock, dragon stone doesn't push hardness up, which makes it a common choice for shrimp tanks and soft-water planted setups.
Can I buy fewer pieces instead of the full 15 kg?
Yes – see Dragon Rock above, sold as a single piece, if you only need to top up an existing scape.
