Bioscape PRO Electronic Heater
Steady tank temperature, shown on its own display. The Bioscape PRO Electronic Heater is a submersible aquarium heater with electronic thermostat control and a dual LED display that shows both the current water temperature and the target you've set. It's sold in two wattages – 500 W for tanks up to 300 L, and 800 W for tanks up to 400 L – both holding 17–34°C to within ±0.1°C.
Key features
- Dual digital display – shows current water temperature and the target you've set, so you can check it's working without a separate thermometer.
- ±0.1°C accuracy across 17–34°C – electronic control holds a tighter band than an old mechanical dial thermostat.
- Reinforced quartz glass construction – a shield protects the quartz tube from knocks without needing a full separate guard cage.
- IPX8 waterproof rating – rated for full submersion, matching how the heater is designed to run.
- Over-temperature cut-off at 35°C – shuts down automatically if the water exceeds the safe band, instead of continuing to add heat.
- Low-water sensor – powers down if the water level drops too low to keep the heating element submerged.
- Power-off memory – remembers your target temperature setting after a power interruption, rather than resetting to default.

Heater sizing guide
Bioscape publishes a rated tank volume for each wattage rather than a full watts-per-litre-per-degree curve. Both figures assume typical indoor conditions – a colder room, an unheated area, or a bigger gap between room and target temperature will all need more wattage headroom than the rated ceiling suggests for a given tank size.
| Wattage | Rated up to | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 500 W | 300 L | Standard indoor tropical setups where the room doesn't get particularly cold |
| 800 W | 400 L | Larger tanks, or tanks in cooler rooms and garages where more headroom helps |
Will it fit my tank?
Match the wattage to your tank's litres, not just its footprint – a heavily stocked or draughty setup can need more wattage than a bare litre count suggests. If your tank sits right at 300 L, the 800 W unit gives more headroom than running the 500 W at its rated ceiling.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and saltwater aquariums – Bioscape markets this heater for use in either. Not suitable for use out of water, or as your only point of temperature monitoring; pair it with a separate tank thermometer to cross-check the reading, as with any heater.
Care and maintenance
Unplug before doing water changes if the heater will be exposed above the waterline even briefly, and let it cool before handling after it's been running.
Safety
Runs on 240 V, suiting Australian mains supply. Reinforced quartz glass construction with a protective shield, IPX8 waterproof rating, over-temperature cut-off at 35°C, a low-water sensor, and power-off memory. Always keep it fully submerged during operation, as stated on the unit itself.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Bioscape's 2-year warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships by standard parcel post.
Goes well with
A tank thermometer to independently verify the display reading, and Bioscape Premium Carbon Pouches if you're removing medication residue after a treatment course – carbon should be pulled before dosing and can go back in once the heater's held a steady temperature for a few days.
Common questions
Which wattage do I need for my tank?
Match litres to the rated ceiling – 500 W for up to 300 L, 800 W for up to 400 L – and size up if the room the tank sits in runs cold.
What happens if the heater is accidentally left out of the water?
The built-in low-water sensor is designed to power the unit down rather than let it run dry, per Bioscape's published safety features.
Can I use this in a saltwater tank?
Yes – Bioscape markets it for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
Does it need a separate controller?
No. Thermostat control is built into the unit via the electronic display – no external controller is required.
How accurate is the temperature reading?
±0.1°C across the 17–34°C operating range, per Bioscape's published spec.
