Fluval Pre Set Aquarium Heater 50w P50
A fixed 50 W heater that holds nano tanks at 24–26°C without any dial to set. The Fluval P50 is a preset submersible heater built for aquariums up to 50 litres, aimed at anyone who wants stable, tropical-community temperatures without adjusting a thermostat.
Because the temperature is fixed at the factory, there's nothing to calibrate and nothing to get wrong at setup – drop it in, plug it in, and the LED confirms it's running. That also means it's the wrong choice if your fish need a temperature outside 24–26°C, or if you want to fine-tune the setting yourself.
Key features
- Preset to 24–26°C (76–78°F) – no dial, no calibration, one less thing to get wrong.
- Shatterproof polymer body – replaces fragile glass construction, so a knock against gravel or décor won't crack the heater.
- Fully submersible – can be mounted horizontally or vertically, giving more placement options in small tanks.
- LED running indicator – a glance tells you it's powered and heating.
- Freshwater and saltwater safe – the same unit works in a nano reef or a community freshwater tank.

Will it fit my tank?
Fluval rates the P50 for aquariums up to 50 litres in a normally heated room. In a cold garage, laundry, or an unheated south-facing room over an Australian winter, the same 50 W has to work harder to close a bigger gap between room and tank temperature, so treat 50 L as a ceiling rather than a target in a cold location – size down, or step up to a higher-wattage Fluval preset heater if you're near that limit and the room runs cold.
Which Fluval preset heater do I need?
The P-Series runs as a wattage ladder, each rated to a maximum tank size in a normally heated room: the P50 shown here is 50 W for up to 50 L, with larger wattages in the range covering bigger tanks. If your tank is close to the 50 L ceiling, or the room it's in runs cold, size up rather than sitting at the limit.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for nano and small community freshwater tanks, and small marine or reef tanks up to 50 L, needing a stable 24–26°C. Not suitable where fish need a specific temperature outside that preset range (some killifish, goldfish and cold-water natives), and not adjustable if your target temperature changes.
Safety
Mains-powered and fully submersible: fit an RCD/safety switch on the circuit it runs from, and unplug it before doing any tank maintenance that lowers the water level below the heater. Let the heater cool for a few minutes after unplugging before handling it or lifting it out of the water – like all aquarium heaters it can still be hot to the touch immediately after use.
Care and maintenance
No user-serviceable parts. Wipe algae or mineral build-up from the body periodically so heat transfers efficiently to the water. Do not run the heater out of water.
Warranty and delivery
Backed by Fluval's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery – not a dangerous-goods or oversized item.
Common questions
Can I adjust the temperature?
No. The P50 is factory-preset to 24–26°C with no dial. If you need a different or adjustable temperature, choose one of Fluval's adjustable heater ranges instead.
Will it work in a marine or reef tank?
Yes, the P50 is rated for both freshwater and saltwater use.
Can I mount it horizontally?
Yes, it's fully submersible and can be positioned horizontally or vertically, which helps in shorter nano tanks.
What size tank is it good for?
Up to 50 litres in a room that stays at a normal indoor temperature. In a colder spot, keep well under that ceiling.
Does it need a separate thermostat or controller?
No – the thermostat is built in and fixed, so no separate controller is required or usable with this model.
