Exo Terra "After Glow" Incandescent Metal Reflector
The reflector keeps glowing for hours after lights out. The Exo Terra Glow Light is a complete clamp lamp, not a bare reflector shade: metal reflector dome, heat-resistant porcelain socket, spring-loaded swivel clamp and a power cord with an inline switch.
What separates it from an ordinary dome is the luminous coating inside the reflector. It charges from the lamp during the day and gives off a soft afterglow once the light is switched off. It comes in three sizes rated to 100 W, 150 W and 200 W respectively.
One limit matters before you buy: Exo Terra states that Glow Light models are not to be used with Exo Terra terrariums.
Key features
- Luminous reflector coating - the inside of the dome stores light energy while the lamp is on and releases it as a soft glow after dark, so nocturnal animals can navigate and diurnal ones can find their retreat.
- Heat-resistant porcelain socket - rated for basking and heat lamps that would degrade a plastic holder.
- Spring-loaded swivel clamp - grips a rail or bracket and angles the beam where you want it.
- Switch on the cord - kill the lamp without unplugging it or reaching into the enclosure.
- Hanger included - Exo Terra supplies an optional hanger for suspended installation.
- Three wattage ceilings - 100 W, 150 W and 200 W, so the dome is matched to the bulb rather than the other way round.
Which size do I need?
The three sizes differ in reflector diameter and, more importantly, in the maximum bulb wattage each is rated for. Fitting a bulb above that ceiling is a fire risk, so size the dome to the bulb you intend to run.
| Size | Reflector diameter | Exo Terra model | Maximum bulb wattage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 14 cm | PT2052 | 100 W |
| Medium | 21 cm | PT2054 | 150 W |
| Large | 25 cm | PT2056 | 200 W |
A larger dome also throws a wider, softer pool of light and gives a bigger glowing surface at night. These wattage ceilings are specific to the Glow Light and should not be assumed from other Exo Terra domes - the Light Dome, for comparison, is rated lower at similar diameters.

Exo Terra does not publish a socket E-number, cord length, dome depth, voltage rating or surface temperature for the Glow Light. We have left those out rather than borrow figures from the Light Dome, which is a different fixture with different ratings.
Where this fixture can and cannot go
This is the part most listings leave out, and it decides whether the Glow Light is the right fixture for you at all.
- Not for Exo Terra terrariums. Exo Terra states that Glow Light models are not to be used with Exo Terra terrariums, and directs you to the Exo Terra Light Dome used with the Exo Terra Light Bracket instead.
- The clamp must not grip glass. Exo Terra's manual states the clamp must not be used to mount the lamp onto any glass item, terrarium, shelf or aquarium.
- Not an aquarium lamp. The manual states it should not be used on any type of aquarium.
- Sit it over the metal screen. Where it is used above a mesh-topped enclosure, it goes over the top metal screen portion, not over glass or plastic parts.
In practice that makes the Glow Light a fixture for wooden vivariums, racks, rails and free-standing brackets rather than for clamping onto a glass terrarium rim.
What's included
- Reflector dome with luminous inner coating
- Heat-resistant ceramic socket
- Spring-loaded swivel clamp
- Power cord with inline on/off switch
- Hanger for suspended installation
Not included
- No bulb. The Glow Light is sold as a fixture only. Choose the lamp separately and check it against the wattage ceiling for your size.
- No thermostat or dimmer. Any heat lamp you fit should be controlled by a thermostat appropriate to that lamp.
- No bracket or stand beyond the clamp and hanger supplied.
Bulbs it takes
Exo Terra lists the Glow Light as accepting its Daytime Heat Lamp, Intense Basking Spot, Daylight Basking Spot, Halogen Basking Spot, Natural Light, Reptile UVB100, UVB150 and UVB200, Infrared Basking Spot and Solar Glo 80 W, along with compact fluorescent and incandescent bulbs generally.
Ceramic heat emitters are not on that list. Exo Terra neither approves nor explicitly forbids them for this fixture, and the sibling Light Dome manual does carry an explicit ceramic emitter exclusion. Until Exo Terra states otherwise, we would not run a ceramic emitter in a Glow Light.
Why there is no heat-at-distance table on this page
A temperature-by-distance gradient belongs to the bulb, not the dome. The Glow Light produces no heat or light of its own - it holds and aims whatever lamp you fit.
Fitting a reflector does raise the temperature reached directly below the lamp compared with running the same bulb bare. Exo Terra publishes no figure for how much. Re-check your basking surface with a probe or infrared thermometer after installing one, and adjust bulb wattage or mounting height to suit.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: wooden and melamine vivariums; rack systems and shelving with a rail or bracket to clamp to; free-standing lamp stands; enclosures where a soft night-time glow is wanted; keepers who want the lamp switchable without reaching inside.
Not suitable for: Exo Terra glass terrariums; clamping onto glass, terrarium frames, shelves or aquariums; aquarium use of any kind; ceramic heat emitters; bulbs above the wattage ceiling for the size; anywhere within reach of children or against curtains and other flammable material.
Safety
- The dome gets hot. Exo Terra's warning is direct - hot surface, avoid any contact while operating.
- Keep it away from curtains and other flammable objects.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Never exceed the wattage ceiling for your size: 100 W, 150 W or 200 W.
- Guard the bulb where an animal can reach it. A clamp lamp holds an exposed bulb, and a basking animal will climb to the warmest point it can get to.
- Exo Terra publishes no minimum distance to the animal and no surface temperature for this fixture, so set your mounting distance from the bulb's requirements and verify it with a thermometer.
Goes well with
- Exo Terra Heat Glo Infrared Heat Lamp - a night-time heat source that pairs with the afterglow effect.
- Exo Terra Solar Glo Self Ballasted UV Heat Lamp - Exo Terra lists the 80 W Solar Glo among the bulbs this fixture accepts.
- Exo Terra Light Dome - the fixture to choose instead if your enclosure is an Exo Terra glass terrarium.
- Exo Terra Light Bracket Adhesive Support Base - the mount Exo Terra pairs with the Light Dome on its own terrariums.
Warranty and delivery
Exo Terra publishes no warranty term for the Glow Light, so we have not stated one. Whatever manufacturer's warranty applies does so in addition to the consumer guarantees you have under Australian Consumer Law, which are not limited by it.

Common questions
Can I use the Exo Terra Glow Light on an Exo Terra glass terrarium?
No. Exo Terra states that Glow Light models are not to be used with Exo Terra terrariums, and directs keepers to the Exo Terra Light Dome used with the Exo Terra Light Bracket instead. The Glow Light's clamp is also not to be mounted onto glass, terrarium frames, shelves or aquariums.
What is the maximum bulb wattage for each Exo Terra Glow Light size?
The 14 cm Small (PT2052) is rated to a maximum 100 W bulb, the 21 cm Medium (PT2054) to 150 W, and the 25 cm Large (PT2056) to 200 W. These ceilings are specific to the Glow Light and should not be assumed from other Exo Terra dome fixtures.
Does the Exo Terra Glow Light come with a bulb?
No. It is supplied as a fixture only - reflector dome, ceramic socket, swivel clamp, switched cord and a hanger. The bulb is bought separately and must sit within the wattage ceiling for the size you choose.
Can I run a ceramic heat emitter in it?
We would not. Exo Terra's list of accepted bulbs for the Glow Light does not include ceramic heat emitters, and the manufacturer's sibling Light Dome fixture carries an explicit ceramic emitter exclusion. Exo Terra has published no approval either way for the Glow Light, so treat it as unsupported.
What actually glows, and for how long?
The luminous coating on the inside of the metal reflector glows, not the bulb. It charges from the lamp while the light is on and releases that stored energy once the lamp is switched off. Exo Terra does not publish how long the afterglow lasts or how bright it is.
Does the reflector make my basking spot hotter?
Yes. Concentrating a bulb's output downward raises the temperature reached directly beneath it compared with the same bulb run bare. Exo Terra publishes no figure for the increase, so measure your basking surface with a probe or infrared thermometer after fitting the dome and adjust bulb wattage or height accordingly.
