Exo Terra Glass Large Low Terrarium 90 x 45 x 30cm

Maximum floor space for animals that never leave the ground. The Exo Terra Glass Terrarium Large/Low (90 x 45 x 30 cm, model PT2611) trades height for footprint, giving ground-dwelling reptiles — tortoises, uromastyx, ground geckos and similar terrestrial species — the widest usable floor area in the Exo Terra glass range. All-glass construction, front-opening doors and a fully removable mesh top make it a practical base for a naturalistic or bioactive terrestrial setup.

Key features
  • 90 x 45 x 30 cm footprint — a low, wide format built for animals that stay on the ground rather than climb.
  • Dual front-opening, lockable doors — full access for cleaning and handling without reaching in from above.
  • Fully removable stainless steel mesh top — lets heat and UVB fixtures mount externally, directly above the terrarium.
  • Watertight base with a raised bottom frame — supports a substrate heater or a shallow water feature without risking the surface underneath.
  • Extra-high fixed front window — extra glass depth at the front to hold deeper substrate or mounted accessories without them showing above the sightline.
  • Five closable cable and tubing inlets per side — route probes, misting lines and heat cables in without leaving a gap an animal can push through.
  • Dual ventilation system — reduces condensation build-up on the front doors.
  • Rock-effect background included — fitted to the rear panel.

Will it fit my enclosure?

At 30 cm external height, this is one of the lowest-profile tanks in the Exo Terra glass range — consider the animal's climbing behaviour, not just its length, before choosing Low over the equivalent Tall model. Because the mesh top comes off completely, heat and UVB fixtures sit externally on top of the terrarium rather than eating into the internal height, so usable basking clearance stays close to the full 30 cm external height once substrate depth is accounted for.

What's included / what you'll still need

Included: the glass terrarium, the fitted rock-effect background, the removable mesh top and the raised watertight base.

Not included: substrate, heating, lighting, thermostat, hides, water and food dishes. This is a base enclosure, not a complete kit — budget for the equipment separately.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to ground-dwelling reptiles that need floor space over height — tortoises, uromastyx, bearded dragons and similar terrestrial lizards. Not the right shape for arboreal species such as tree-dwelling geckos or climbing snakes, which need vertical space more than floor area — see the Tall and X-Tall formats for those.

Care and maintenance

Clean glass with a reptile-safe, ammonia-free cleaner. Check the door locking mechanism and the mesh top's seating periodically, and keep unused cable inlets closed.

Safety

Any heat lamp, ceramic heat emitter or heat mat used with this enclosure needs its own thermostat rated for the wattage installed — running a heat source without a thermostat is a burn and fire risk to the animal. Match the thermostat type to the heat source, not just to the enclosure.

Goes well with
  • An Exo Terra Heat Guard or dome fixture sized to the mesh top, so the lamp mounts safely above the terrarium.
  • A thermostat rated for the wattage of whatever heat source you choose.
  • A substrate suited to the species you're keeping.

Common questions

Can I mount heating and lighting fixtures on the mesh top at the same time?

Yes — the mesh top is designed to take multiple externally mounted fixtures, such as a heat lamp and a separate UVB lamp side by side, as long as each keeps its own safe clearance from the mesh.

Does the base handle a bioactive substrate setup?

Yes — the raised, watertight base is built to support a drainage layer under a bioactive substrate without leaking onto the surface underneath.

Will a screen top let enough heat and UVB through?

The stainless steel mesh is designed for externally mounted fixtures and passes heat and light through, though any mesh causes some UV attenuation. Check the specific UVB lamp's own distance chart for figures measured through mesh where the manufacturer publishes one, rather than assuming open-air readings apply unchanged.

Can this go on ordinary furniture?

A filled 90 x 45 x 30 cm glass terrarium is a genuinely heavy, load-bearing item once substrate, décor and water are in it — use a stand or cabinet rated for reptile terrariums rather than ordinary furniture.
