Exo Terra Reptile Fountain
Moving water reptiles actually drink from. The Exo Terra Reptile Fountain is a rock-look basin fitted with the Exo Terra Repti Flo 200 circulation pump (included), giving a continuous flow of fresh, aerated water. Many reptiles and amphibians are far more likely to drink from moving water than a still bowl, and the constant circulation also lifts local humidity around the fountain — useful in enclosures that need a moisture boost between full mistings.
Key features
- Continuous water movement — the included Repti Flo 200 pump keeps water circulating and aerated, encouraging reptiles that ignore still water to drink.
- Hermetically sealed pump — the motor housing is sealed against water ingress for safe, submerged operation.
- Raises local humidity — moving water evaporates faster than a still dish, helping lift humidity in the immediate area.
- Built-in drowning protection — internal steps in the basin help smaller animals climb back out; add a layer of stones or gravel for extra security with small species.
- Two-piece design — basin and pump separate for cleaning without tools.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to most terrarium and vivarium setups where a stable, sealed water feature can run continuously — geckos, bearded dragons, snakes and similar reptiles that will use a bowl-style water source. Not designed as a soaking or swimming pool for aquatic or semi-aquatic species; the basin depth and moving impeller aren't sized for full submersion by the animal.
Care and maintenance
The basin and pump separate into two pieces for cleaning. Exo Terra's instructions call for regular cleaning of the impeller and impeller well to clear slime, dirt and debris, and — in hard water areas — running the pump briefly in a 50/50 water and vinegar solution before rinsing thoroughly to remove calcium buildup. Treating tap water with a dechlorinator such as Exo Terra Aquatize before use is recommended, and Exo Terra Biotize can help keep the water cleaner between cleans.
Safety
The pump motor housing is hermetically sealed against water damage and electrical shock for safe operation while submerged. As with any mains-powered aquatic accessory, check the cord and plug for damage before each use and don't run the unit dry.
Running costs
At 2.6 W, running continuously costs roughly 23 kWh a year — about $6.84 a year at a 30c/kWh tariff. Actual cost will vary with your electricity rate and whether the fountain runs around the clock or only during the day.
Goes well with
Works well alongside a dechlorinator such as Exo Terra Aquatize for treating tap water, and a hygrometer if you're relying on the fountain to help lift humidity in a drier enclosure.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty against faults, in addition to the consumer guarantees you're entitled to under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
Will reptiles actually use a fountain instead of a bowl?
Many reptiles respond to movement more readily than a still surface, which is the main reason keepers add a circulating fountain rather than relying on a static water bowl alone.
Is it safe to leave running while I'm out?
The pump is hermetically sealed for safe submerged operation, and the fountain is designed to run continuously. Check the water level periodically so the pump is never left running dry.
Do I need to treat my tap water first?
Exo Terra recommends treating tap water with a dechlorinator such as Aquatize before adding it to the fountain.
How do I stop it clogging up?
Clean the impeller and impeller well regularly, and in hard water areas, periodically run the pump in a 50/50 water-and-vinegar solution to clear calcium buildup, then rinse thoroughly before refilling.
