Exo Terra Screen Terrarium Medium/Tall 60 x 45 x 90cm

Full-mesh ventilation for arboreal species that cannot tolerate stagnant air. The Exo Terra Screen Terrarium Medium X-Tall (PT2678) is a 60 × 45 × 90 cm anodized-aluminium enclosure built around unrestricted airflow — the design chameleon keepers reach for first, since poor ventilation is one of the fastest ways to trigger respiratory illness in these species.

Key features
  • Full aluminium mesh on all sides — constant cross-ventilation, not just a vented lid.
  • Corrosion-resistant black anodized frame — holds up to the frequent misting arboreal setups need.
  • Large hinged front door — full access to the interior for planting, feeding and maintenance.
  • Swiveling bottom door with removable substrate tray — substrate changes without dismantling the enclosure.
  • Nickel-plated, cricket-proof latches — keep feeder insects in and the animal secure.
  • Mesh sides pass UVB — lets a UVB lamp mounted on or above the screen reach the animal, at a reduced dose — see the mesh note below.
  • Single-screwdriver assembly.

Will it fit my chameleon or climbing species?

At 90 cm tall on a 60 × 45 cm base, this is sized for adult chameleons and other large arboreal climbers that need real vertical space as well as floor room to move between basking and cool zones. Smaller or juvenile animals are usually better suited to one of the smaller sizes below, since an oversized enclosure can make an animal harder to locate and feed reliably.

Which Screen Terrarium do I need?

Exo Terra's Screen Terrarium range shares the same aluminium-mesh design across four sizes. The two smaller sizes are also sold on our site; a Large X-Tall (90 × 45 × 90 cm) exists in Exo Terra's range for the biggest arboreal species.

Model External dimensions Best for
Small Tall 45 × 45 × 60 cm Compact climbers and smaller day geckos
Small X-Tall 45 × 45 × 90 cm Adult chameleons needing height on a small footprint
Medium X-Tall (this listing) 60 × 45 × 90 cm Adult chameleons and larger climbers needing floor space and height together
What's included / what you'll still need

This is a bare enclosure. It does not include heating, lighting, substrate, background, decor or a thermostat — all of which arboreal species need to be set up safely.

  • Included: aluminium mesh frame, removable substrate tray, hinged front door, swiveling bottom door, latches.
  • Not included: heat source, UVB lamp, thermostat, substrate, background, decor, misting or drainage system.
Suitable for — and not suitable for

Suited to chameleons and other arboreal reptiles and amphibians that need constant airflow and dislike humid, stagnant air. Not the right choice for species that need a closed, high-humidity enclosure to hold moisture — the open mesh sheds humidity quickly, so misting has to be more frequent than in a glass terrarium, and heat output has to be higher to compensate for the airflow across the whole side wall, not just a heat lamp above.

Safety

Any heat lamp, ceramic heat emitter or UVB lamp used with this enclosure should be mounted at the minimum safe distance stated on that product's own page, and always used with an appropriate thermostat. Because the sides are open mesh, check that a hanging lamp cannot swing into contact with the screen or the animal.

Care and maintenance

Wipe the aluminium frame down as part of routine cleaning; it will not rust, but mineral deposits from misting can build up on the mesh over time. The substrate tray lifts out through the swiveling bottom door for full substrate changes.

Goes well with
  • An Exo Terra heat lamp or ceramic heat emitter sized to this enclosure's height and the species' target basking temperature.
  • An Exo Terra UVB lamp suited to the species' UV Index requirement, mounted per its own gradient table.
  • An Exo Terra thermostat matched to the wattage of the heat source in use.
  • A background panel to help the animal feel secure against at least one solid wall.
Warranty and delivery

Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer term. This is a large, boxed item — check freight and delivery options at checkout. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse.

Common questions

Can I keep a chameleon in this without extra heating and lighting?

No. This is a bare enclosure. You will need a heat source, a UVB lamp and a thermostat to keep any reptile or amphibian safely — see "Goes well with" above.

Will a UVB lamp work properly through the mesh?

Yes, but expect reduced output compared with an open top. Check the mesh-adjusted distance and UV Index figures on your specific lamp's own product page rather than assuming full-strength output.

Does the open mesh make the enclosure harder to heat?

It can. Because air moves freely through all four sides, ambient temperature is harder to hold than in a glass terrarium, so heat sources generally need to run at a higher wattage for the same result, and humidity needs more frequent misting.

What's the difference between this and the Small X-Tall?

Same 90 cm height, but this Medium X-Tall has a 60 × 45 cm base against the Small X-Tall's 45 × 45 cm base — more floor area for an animal to move between basking and cool zones.
