Exo Terra Terrasky Planted Terrarium LED Light Unit
A full-spectrum LED fixture built to grow live plants inside a naturalistic terrarium, not just light it. The Exo Terra TerraSky combines 24 bright white 6500K LEDs with 12 tricolour RGB LEDs behind an IP54 waterproof housing, giving planted terrariums enough usable light at typical mounting heights to support real plant growth, while the RGB channel adds sunrise, sunset and storm effects for a display that reads as a living scene rather than a lit box. It mounts on extendable brackets across terrariums between 38 and 60 cm wide, covering Exo Terra's Small and Medium Natural Terrarium range.
Key features
- 24 white 6500K LEDs plus 12 RGB LEDs — a daylight base spectrum for plant growth with a separate colour channel for atmospheric effects.
- 12 W draw, 780 lm output — enough usable light for live plants at the distances the performance table below covers.
- 120° light dispersion — spreads light across the terrarium footprint rather than a single hotspot.
- IP54 waterproof housing — rated for the humidity and misting a planted terrarium generates.
- 11 preset weather effects — cloud cover, sunrise, sunset, moon, storm and lightning, run from the included remote.
- 6 pre-programmed colour settings plus 4 memory buttons — save your own combinations rather than resetting presets each time.
- Extendable mounting brackets included — fits terrariums 38–60 cm wide without a separate hood.

Exo Terra does not publish physical dimensions or cable length for this fixture, so we've left those figures out rather than estimate them.
Will it fit my enclosure?
The TerraSky's extendable brackets are designed for Exo Terra's Small and Medium Natural Terrariums, and any terrarium between 38 and 60 cm wide. Measure the outside width of your terrarium's top rim before ordering — a mismatch here is the most common return reason on light fixtures generally, not just this one.
Performance — light intensity by distance
PAR (photosynthetically active radiation) falls off sharply with distance from any LED fixture, which is why the wattage and lumen figures above tell you almost nothing about what actually reaches a plant lower in the terrarium. Exo Terra publishes the following PAR readings taken directly below the fixture:
| Distance from fixture | PAR (µmol/m²/s) |
|---|---|
| 8 cm | 250 |
| 15 cm | 120 |
| 30 cm | 38 |
| 46 cm | 18 |
Low to mid-light terrarium plants — many mosses, ferns, pothos and smaller epiphytes — do reasonably well in the 20–40 PAR range, which this fixture reaches out to roughly 30–35 cm. Anything planted near the substrate in a taller terrarium, well past 46 cm from the fixture, is getting background light rather than growth-driving light — plan your planting layout around that curve rather than the headline lumen figure.
Suitable for — and not suitable for
Suited to live planted terrariums and paludariums where you want genuine plant growth plus a naturalistic day-night and weather cycle — mosses, ferns, small epiphytes, pothos and similar low-to-mid light species positioned within the effective PAR range above. Not intended as a UVB or basking light source for reptiles and amphibians that need those wavelengths — the TerraSky is a plant-growth and display fixture, and a species with UVB or high-heat basking requirements still needs a dedicated UVB lamp and heat source alongside it.
Safety
- IP54-rated housing tolerates splashes and the humidity of a planted terrarium, but the fixture is not designed to be submerged.
- Plug into a standard AU household outlet; keep the power adapter and remote receiver away from direct water contact.
- Mount using the supplied extendable brackets rather than resting the fixture directly on wet substrate or glass.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the housing and lens down periodically to clear misting residue and mineral deposits, which reduce light output over time if left to build up. No bulb replacement is required — LEDs are not user-serviceable on this fixture.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Exo Terra's 2-year warranty against defective parts and workmanship from the date of purchase, with proof of purchase required, in addition to the consumer guarantees you're entitled to under Australian Consumer Law. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse.
Common questions
Will this grow real plants, or is it just for looks?
Both — the white LED channel is a genuine growth light for low-to-mid PAR plants within about 30–35 cm of the fixture, while the RGB channel adds the weather and colour effects on top.
Does this provide UVB for my reptile?
No. The TerraSky is a plant-growth and display light, not a UVB source. Species that need UVB still require a dedicated UVB lamp.
What terrarium sizes does it fit?
Exo Terra's Small and Medium Natural Terrariums, and any enclosure between 38 and 60 cm wide, using the included extendable mounting brackets.
How is it controlled?
Via the included remote, with 11 preset weather effects, 6 pre-programmed colour settings and 4 memory buttons for your own saved combinations.
Is it waterproof?
It carries an IP54 rating, suited to the humidity and misting of a planted terrarium, but it isn't designed to be submerged.
