Exo Terra Water Dish

A natural rock-look dish reptiles won't tip over. The Exo Terra Water Dish gives reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates a stable place to drink and soak, cast in a realistic rock texture that sits naturally in planted and naturalistic terrariums. It's sold in four sizes, Small through Extra Large, so it scales from a gecko enclosure up to a large monitor or tortoise setup.

Key features
  • Food-grade resin construction — a smooth, non-porous coated interior that resists bacteria and wipes clean, under a textured rock-look exterior.
  • Stable, weighted base — resists tipping when an animal climbs in to soak.
  • Gently sloped inner wall — lets smaller animals climb back out unaided.
  • Four sizes — Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large, so the dish can be matched to the animal rather than the enclosure.
Specifications — all sizes
Size Dimensions (W × D × H) SKU
Small 5.5 × 6.5 × 3 cm CHL15
Medium 10 × 13 × 3.3 cm CHL16
Large 22 × 17.8 × 5.5 cm CHL17
Extra Large 23.5 × 28.5 × 7 cm CHL18

Dimensions are Exo Terra's own, published on the manufacturer's product pages for each size.

Which size do I need?

Size the dish to the animal, not just the enclosure — a dish deep enough for a soaking gecko can still be a drowning risk for a hatchling, and a dish too small for an adult bearded dragon or blue-tongue won't hold enough water to be useful. Small suits geckos and small skinks; Medium suits larger geckos and juvenile lizards; Large and Extra Large suit adult bearded dragons, blue-tongues and similarly sized reptiles that need a genuine soaking dish, not just a drinking bowl.

Suitable for — and not suitable for

Suitable for reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates that drink from or soak in standing water. Not intended as a substitute for correctly sized humidity provisions for species that need moisture from substrate or misting rather than open water, and not suitable as the sole water source in enclosures housing species prone to drowning — check depth against the animal's size before use.

Care and maintenance

Rinse and refill regularly. The non-porous coated interior wipes clean and resists staining better than uncoated resin or unglazed ceramic, but it still needs the same water-hygiene routine as any reptile water dish.

Goes well with
  • An Exo Terra Water Well for enclosures that need water topped up automatically between cleans.
  • Substrate suited to the species, so spilled water drains rather than pooling around the dish.
Warranty and delivery

Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer term. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse.

Common questions

Which size suits a leopard gecko?

The Small or Medium size suits most leopard geckos and similarly sized geckos — check the dish is shallow enough that a hatchling can't be trapped in deep water.

Can invertebrates use this dish?

Yes — Exo Terra markets the range as suitable for reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, though very small invertebrates should have a shallow, easy-exit option available too.

Does the rock texture make it slippery?

The exterior carries the rock texture; the interior is a smooth, non-porous coating specifically so animals get a clean surface and an easy climb-out, not a slippery textured one.

Will it tip over if a larger reptile climbs in?

The base is weighted for stability, but always match the dish size to the animal — an animal much larger than the dish is designed for can still tip it.
