Traps debris and grows bacteria in one pad. This is the genuine Fluval Bio-Foam insert for the AquaClear 50 (AC50) power filter, part 19674, sold as a pack of three. It is the blue mechanical stage that sits in the AC50's media basket ahead of the chemical media and BioMax.

Fluval sizes the foam insert to each filter body, so a 20, 30, 70 or 110 will not take the AC50 pad even though the filters share a family design.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for scheduled replacement on any AquaClear 50 / AC50, and for topping up mechanical capacity where the existing pad has gone dark and compacted.
Not suitable for any other AquaClear model – the AC50 pad is a different size to the 20, 30, 70 and 110 inserts.
Care and maintenance
Rinse in removed tank water between full replacements to knock loose debris free without killing the bacteria it's carrying. Replace on the 2-month schedule regardless of how clean it looks – the foam loses mechanical efficiency as its cells compress, well before it looks dirty.

Common questions
How often should I replace the AC50 foam insert?
Fluval recommends every 2 months. A three-pack covers six months of scheduled changes.
Can I rinse it instead of replacing it?
Rinsing between changes is fine and keeps the bacteria colony intact, but it doesn't substitute for the 2-month replacement – the foam still loses mechanical performance as it compacts.
Does the pack come with three pads because the filter uses three at once?
No – the AC50 media basket takes one foam insert at a time. The three-pack is for six months of scheduled replacement, not three pads used simultaneously.
