Fluval AC50 Clear Carb Insert 1 Pack
Polishes water and pulls phosphate out at the same time. This is the genuine Fluval Clear-Carb insert for the AquaClear 50 (AC50) power filter, part 19627, supplied as a single 75 g bag. It is the chemical stage in the middle of the AC50's media basket, and the one Fluval designed for direct access without lifting the whole basket out.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part 19627 – sized to the AC50's chemical media slot.
- Carbon and Clearmax resin combined – activated carbon handles odour, discolouration and dissolved organics; the resin component targets phosphate, nitrite and nitrate that carbon alone doesn't touch.
- No basket removal to change it – the AC50's chemical media compartment is reachable from the top, so a monthly swap doesn't disturb the foam or BioMax stages either side of it.
- Mesh bag included – no loose granules through the impeller.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for routine monthly chemical filtration on an AquaClear 50 / AC50, and for clearing tannin staining or odour after a water change or a new piece of driftwood.
Not suitable for tanks recently dosed with medication that needs to stay in the water column – carbon-based media will pull most medications back out. Remove it before dosing and reinstall once the course is finished.
Care and maintenance
Replace every 4 weeks. Chemical media has a fixed capacity – once saturated it stops removing anything and can release some of what it captured back into the water. There's no rinse-and-reuse option for this stage.
Goes well with
- Zeo-Carb insert for AC50 – swap in when ammonia control matters more than general polishing
- BioMax insert for AC50 – the biological stage behind this one
- Activated Carbon insert 3 Pack – a carbon-only alternative without the resin component
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as genuine Fluval replacement media. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
What's the difference between Clear-Carb and plain activated carbon?
Clear-Carb adds a resin component to standard activated carbon, so it targets phosphate, nitrite and nitrate in addition to the odour and discolouration carbon handles on its own.
How often does it need replacing?
Every 4 weeks. It has no reusable rinse cycle – once the media is saturated, it needs swapping.
Do I need to remove it before treating my fish with medication?
Yes, in most cases. Carbon and resin media will strip many medications out of the water before they can work – check the medication's instructions and pull the Clear-Carb bag if it says to remove chemical filtration.
