Fluval AC70/110 Ammonia Remover Insert 3 Pack
Locks up ammonia before it reaches livestock. This is the genuine Fluval ammonia remover insert for the AquaClear AC70 and AC110 power filters, sold as a 3-pack. It is a natural ion-exchange media for freshwater aquariums, and it is not intended for marine or reef systems.
Key features
- Natural clinoptilolite ion-exchange media — binds free ammonia and ammonium as water passes through.
- Suited to new and heavily stocked tanks — the two situations where ammonia is most likely to spike between water changes.
- Fits AC70 and AC110 — one product covers both filter sizes.
- Three to a pack — enough for roughly three months of scheduled replacement.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater tanks running an AquaClear AC70 or AquaClear AC110, particularly during cycling or in a heavily stocked setup. Not suitable for marine or reef tanks — the same exchange sites that bind ammonia in freshwater are largely saturated by the salts in saltwater, so the media has little effect there.
Care and maintenance
Replace every 4 weeks. Once its exchange capacity is used up it stops removing ammonia, and unlike carbon it gives no visual sign of being spent — running to a fixed schedule is the reliable approach.
Goes well with
- AC70 Bio-Foam Insert, 3-Pack — mechanical filtration ahead of the ammonia remover
- AC70/AC110 BIOMAX Insert, 125g — biological filtration for ongoing ammonia control once the tank is cycled
- AC70/AC110 Activated Carbon Insert, 3-Pack — odour and discolouration control alongside it
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as genuine Fluval filter media. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
Can I use this in a saltwater or reef tank?
No. It's formulated for freshwater use. In saltwater its ion-exchange sites are outcompeted by the salts already in solution, so it does little useful work.
Do I need this once my tank has cycled?
Not necessarily. Once the biological filter is established, beneficial bacteria handle ammonia continuously. Many owners keep an ammonia remover on hand for new fish, illness treatment periods, or overstocked tanks instead of running it permanently.
Does one insert fit both the AC70 and AC110?
Yes, the same 3-pack fits both filter sizes.
How will I know if it's still working?
You won't see a visible change. Replace it every 4 weeks regardless, and use a liquid or test-strip ammonia kit to confirm your levels if you're unsure.
