Fluval T Electronic Heater
A fully electronic heater with a digital thermostat, integrated guard and automatic run-dry protection — freshwater tanks only. The Fluval T-Series heater holds a set temperature with an electronic sensor and dial, in a glass body sized to suit tanks from 50 L up to 300 L depending on wattage.
Key features
- Electronic thermostat — set and hold your target temperature with a top dial, no manual calibration.
- Integrated heater guard — built into the unit, not sold separately, to keep fish and decor off the hot glass.
- Automatic run-dry protection — the heater cuts power if water drops below the minimum fill line or the unit is removed from water.
- Fully submersible — can be mounted vertically or horizontally, to a maximum depth of 1 m.
- Five wattages — sized from small nano setups (50 W) up to large freshwater community and planted tanks (300 W).
Which wattage do I need?
Fluval rates each wattage to a maximum tank volume, assuming a typical indoor ambient temperature. In a cold room, a garage, or an unheated space in winter, size up rather than to the exact litre figure.
| Wattage | Rated up to | Length |
|---|---|---|
| 50 W | 50 L | 26.5 cm |
| 100 W | 100 L | 26.5 cm |
| 150 W | 150 L | 32 cm |
| 200 W | 200 L | 32 cm |
| 300 W | 300 L | 35.5 cm |

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater community, planted and nano tanks within the rated volume for each wattage. Not suitable for marine or reef aquariums — Fluval builds the T-Series for freshwater use only, and it is not sold or warranted as a saltwater heater.
Safety
Mains-powered and fully submersible: use on a circuit protected by an RCD, and never operate the heater out of water. Allow the unit to cool before handling after use — the glass body runs hot. Keep the heater below the marked minimum water line at all times; the run-dry cut-off is a backup, not a substitute for checking water level.
Care and maintenance
Wipe down periodically to remove algae or mineral build-up, which can insulate the glass and affect accuracy. Check the temperature against a separate thermometer occasionally — like any thermostat, drift can occur over years of use.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's 2-year manufacturer warranty against defects, on top of your consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery within Australia.
Common questions
Can I use this in a marine or reef tank?
No. Fluval builds the T-Series for freshwater use only — it isn't rated or warranted for saltwater.
Do I need a separate controller?
No. The thermostat is built into the heater — set your temperature on the top dial.
What happens if the water level drops too low?
The heater cuts power automatically once the level drops below the marked minimum line, but always check water levels yourself rather than relying on this as your only safeguard.
Which wattage suits a 120 L tank?
The 150 W model is rated up to 150 L, giving headroom over a 120 L tank. In a cold room or over winter, sizing up is safer than sizing to the exact litre figure.
Is the heater guard included?
Yes — it's built into the unit, not a separate purchase.
