Zoo Med Hermit Crab Scooper Substrate Sieve

Spot-clean the crabitat without disturbing the rest of the substrate. The Zoo Med Hermit Crab Scooper is a perforated scoop-and-sieve tool built for lifting droppings, uneaten food and other debris out of sand — waste stays in the scoop while clean substrate sifts straight back through the mesh.

Key features
  • Perforated scoop — built for spot-cleaning the dirty patches in a sand habitat rather than a full substrate change.
  • Sifts as it scoops — mesh openings let clean sand fall back into the enclosure while waste stays in the scoop.
  • Sized for hermit crab and small terrarium enclosures — easy to manoeuvre around decor and hides.
  • Rinse-clean design — wash it out under a tap between uses.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for spot-cleaning sand and other loose, fine substrates in hermit crab habitats and small terrariums. Not intended as a full substrate-changing scoop for heavy digging — it's built for lifting small amounts of waste, not moving bulk substrate.

Care and maintenance

Rinse after every use and let it air dry before returning it to the enclosure, so waste and moisture aren't carried back into clean substrate.

Warranty and delivery

Zoo Med covers this scooper under a 6-month manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery.

Common questions

Does it work in wet or damp sand?

It's designed for the lightly damp "sandcastle" consistency most hermit crab keepers already keep their substrate at — very wet or waterlogged substrate won't sift as cleanly through the mesh.

Can I use it for gravel or bark substrates too?

It's built and sized for fine sand. Coarser substrates like bark or larger gravel are better suited to a different tool.

Do I still need a full substrate change if I scoop daily?

Yes, eventually — daily spot-cleaning extends the time between full changes considerably, but doesn't replace them.
