Bioscape Tropic Canister Filter
Pick your canister filter by the tank you actually run. The Bioscape Tropic Canister Filter is a 3-stage mechanical, chemical and biological external filter sold in four sizes — 800, 1200, 1800 and 2200 L/h — covering tanks from around 200 L up to 700 L. Every size ships with media, hoses, a self-priming pump and a 2-year warranty.
Key features
- 3-stage filtration — media baskets combine mechanical, biological and chemical stages; swap media as your tank's needs change.
- Smart Start priming pump — floods the canister on startup, no manual priming.
- Leak-proof valve system — quick-disconnect valves seal the hoses when you lift the canister out for cleaning, so you're not draining the display tank to service it.
- Four sizes, one design — 800, 1200, 1800 and 2200 L/h, so you can match flow to the tank instead of over- or under-sizing.
- 2-year manufacturer warranty on every size.

Bioscape hasn't published wattage or full dimensions for the 800 and 2200 models on its Australian retailer spec sheets, and doesn't publish a flow-versus-head curve for any size in this range — the rated L/h figures above are the manufacturer's headline rating, not a measurement at your filter's actual lift height. Ask us to check with Bioscape if you need the missing figures for an installation plan.
Which one do I need?
Match the model to your tank's actual volume using the table above, and go up a size rather than down if you're stocked heavily, run a planted tank with strong circulation needs, or sit between two tank volumes.
Compatibility, spares and supersession
The 800 and 1200 lph filters share one impeller assembly; the 1800 and 2200 lph filters use a different, larger impeller assembly. Check your filter's rated flow before ordering a replacement impeller.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums within each model's recommended tank size. Not the right choice for nano tanks — even the smallest 800 L/h model is likely to turn over a nano volume far too fast; a hang-on or internal filter suits those better.
Care and maintenance
Rinse media in removed tank water rather than tap water to protect the biological colony, and check the valve seals for grit at each clean — that's the most common cause of a slow leak.
Safety
Mains-powered; the 1200 and 1800 lph models run on 220–240 V. Keep all electrical connections above the waterline and use a drip loop on the power cable.
Warranty and delivery
2-year manufacturer warranty on every size, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. These are large, bulky items — expect a higher delivery cost than a small parcel.
Common questions
Which size do I need for my tank?
Use the recommended tank size in the table above, and size up rather than down if you're close to the limit.
Does it come with media?
Yes — every size ships with a full set of 3-stage media already fitted in the baskets.
Will the same impeller fit all four sizes?
No — the 800 and 1200 share one impeller assembly, and the 1800 and 2200 use a different one.
Does Bioscape publish a flow curve for head height?
No — Bioscape doesn't publish a flow-versus-lift chart for this range. The rated L/h figures are the headline rating only.
Is it reef and marine safe?
Yes — Bioscape lists this filter for both freshwater and saltwater use.
