A humidity-holding floor for burrowing reptiles and amphibians. Eco Tech Jungle Coco Husk is a compressed coconut-fibre brick that expands to roughly 7 litres of loose substrate once soaked. It holds moisture well, so it helps keep enclosure humidity stable between mistings, and its natural texture gives burrowing and semi-fossorial species something to dig into.

Key features
  • Expands to about 7 litres — one 500 gm brick rehydrates into enough loose substrate for a small to medium enclosure.
  • Holds humidity — coconut fibre absorbs and releases moisture gradually, buffering humidity swings between mistings.
  • Natural, chemical-free material — coconut coir, with no added salts, dyes or fertilisers.
  • Digging-friendly texture — loose and workable once expanded, suited to burrowing species.
  • Compact for storage — ships as a dry brick; expand only what you need.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for burrowing and humidity-loving reptiles and amphibians — geckos, skinks, frogs and similar species kept in naturalistic setups.
  • Not suitable as the sole substrate for arid species that need a dry, low-humidity floor — a coconut-fibre substrate holds more moisture than they need.
Care and maintenance

Soak the brick in water until it breaks apart and expands fully, then drain off any excess water before adding it to the enclosure. Fluff and re-moisten as needed to keep humidity in range, and spot-clean waste regularly. Replace the substrate fully every few months, or sooner if it develops mould or a persistent odour.

Goes well with
  • A hygrometer, to check the enclosure is actually holding the humidity this substrate is chosen for.
  • Leaf litter or moss, layered on top for a more naturalistic finish.
  • A misting bottle or automatic mister, to keep the substrate from drying out between top-ups.

Common questions

How much substrate does one brick make?

Around 7 litres once fully expanded, enough for a shallow layer across a small to medium enclosure floor.

Does it need rinsing before use?

No rinsing is required — just soak until it breaks apart, then drain off the excess water before use.

Can I use it for a dry, arid-species setup?

It's built to hold humidity, so it suits tropical and humid-terrarium species better than desert species that need a dry substrate.

How often should I change it?

Spot-clean waste as you see it and do a full change every few months, or immediately if it starts to smell or grow mould.
