Fluval 07 Filter Canister Case 207
The tub your media stacks in, sold on its own.
This is the genuine Fluval filter canister, part A20188, for the 207 external filter. It is the moulded outer body – the vessel the media baskets sit inside and the motor head clamps down onto. A crazed or cracked canister is the one 07 fault you cannot service around, because the head gasket has nothing true to seal against and the filter weeps every time it primes.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20188 – Fluval lists this canister against the 207 and no other model, so the rim, clip lugs and basket footprint are exact.
- 5.3 L canister volume – the same body the filter left the factory with, so media capacity and flow are unchanged after the swap.
- Saves the whole filter – motor head, baskets, hoses and AquaStop all carry over. You replace one moulding, not a canister filter.
- Freshwater and marine – the 207 is rated for both and the canister material is the same either way.
- No tools needed – release the two side clips, lift the head, move the baskets across.

Will it fit my filter?
The canister body is the most model-specific part in the 07 range. Fluval publishes one canister part number per filter, with no sharing between models.
| Filter | Canister part number | Canister volume |
|---|---|---|
| Fluval 107 | A20183 | 3.9 L |
| Fluval 207 | A20188 | 5.3 L |
| Fluval 307 | A20193 | 7.3 L |
| Fluval 407 | A20198 | 9.2 L |
A20188 is the 207 body. It does not fit the 107, 307 or 407, and Fluval does not list it for the earlier 205 or 206. Some 07 parts do run backwards – the impeller shaft and bushing (A20039) is published against both the 06 and 07 series – but the canister is not one of them, so do not assume an 06 body interchanges.
Which canister case do I need?
Read the model number moulded into your motor head, or check the aquarium capacity on the box.
| Filter | Aquarium capacity | Filter circulation | Canister case |
|---|---|---|---|
| 107 | 40–130 L | 360 L/h | A20183 |
| 207 | 60–220 L | 460 L/h | A20188 (this part) |
| 307 | 90–330 L | 780 L/h | A20193 |
| 407 | 150–500 L | 930 L/h | A20198 |
Filter circulation is the figure measured with media loaded, and it is the one to size a tank against. Pump output – 780 L/h on the 207 – is measured on an empty canister.
What's included
- 1 x filter canister body for the Fluval 207
Not included
Fluval supplies this as the replacement canister. Each item below carries its own Fluval part number, so add them to the order if yours need replacing rather than assuming they arrive in the box.
- Motor head – see the 207 motor head.
- Media baskets and basket cover – the 107/207 basket cover is A20042.
- Motor head gasket O-ring – part A20038, the head gasket.
- AquaStop valve, hoses and intake stem – the AquaStop valve is A20062.
- Filter media.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for a 207 with a hairline crack, a split rim, a stress fracture at a clip lug, or a body that has gone chalky and brittle with age. Also suitable for a second-hand 207 bought as a motor head only.
Not suitable for the 107, 307 or 407, for the 05 or 06 series, or for any FX canister. It will not fix a leak caused by a perished head gasket or a clip that no longer tensions – check those two first, because they are cheaper and far more often the culprit.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the canister in tank water at each service and dry the rim before the head goes back on. Grit on the sealing face is the usual cause of a weep on a body that is otherwise sound.
Never put it through a dishwasher and never use detergent. Heat and solvents are what make the plastic go brittle at the clip lugs. Check the rim for chips every time the head is off.
Goes well with
- Motor head gasket O-ring (A20038) – a new body deserves a new seal, so fit both together
- 07 case clips – clips lose tension long before a body fails
- 107/207 impeller with ceramic shaft – the usual fix for noise after a rebuild
- Bio-Foam MAX – replace tired foam while the filter is apart
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Fluval does not quote a separate warranty term on moulded service parts. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. Ships as a standard parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
Does the Fluval A20188 canister come with the media baskets?
Fluval lists A20188 as the replacement filter canister, which is the outer body. The baskets, basket cover, motor head and AquaStop valve each carry their own Fluval part number, so order those separately if yours also need replacing.
Will an A20188 canister fit a Fluval 206?
Fluval lists A20188 for the 207 only. Shared 07 parts such as the impeller shaft and bushing are published against both the 06 and 07 series, but the canister body is not, so treat it as 207-specific.
My 207 weeps where the head meets the body. Do I need a new canister?
Usually not. A weep at that joint is far more often a perished motor head gasket or grit on the sealing rim. Replace the A20038 gasket and clean the rim first, then move to a new canister only if the rim itself is chipped or cracked.
Can I get more media capacity by fitting a 307 canister to my 207?
No. Each 07 motor head is matched to its own canister diameter and height, and the pump is rated for that body. A 307 canister will not clamp or seal onto a 207 head.
How long does the swap take?
About ten minutes. Switch the filter off, close the AquaStop, release the two side clips, lift the motor head, transfer the baskets in the same order, then clamp the head onto the new body.
