Fluval 07 Basket Cover 107/207
Keeps media in the basket instead of loose in the motor head.
This is the genuine Fluval media basket cover, part A20042, for the 107 and 207 canister filters. It is the slotted lid over the top media basket that makes water pass through the media rather than around it. Fluval also lists it against the earlier 105/205 and 106/206, so it is one of the few 07 parts that runs backwards three generations.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20042 – moulded to the 107 and 207 basket footprint, so it drops in without flexing or sitting proud.
- Stops media bypass – a missing or cracked cover lets water take the easy route around the basket, which is why a filter can look full of media and still polish badly.
- Holds light media down – bio rings, foam offcuts and polishing pads lift under flow. The cover is what pins them.
- Fits three generations – 105/205, 106/206 and 107/207 all take the same cover, so an older canister is not orphaned.

Will it fit my filter?
The 107 and 207 share a canister body with the 105/205 and 106/206 before them, and one cover serves all six.
| Filter model | Fluval model code | Takes A20042 |
|---|---|---|
| 105 | 201 | Yes |
| 205 | 206 | Yes |
| 106 | A202 | Yes |
| 206 | A207 | Yes |
| 107 | A440 | Yes |
| 207 | A443 | Yes |
It does not fit the Fluval 305, 405, 306, 406, 307 or 407. Those are the large-body canisters and take part A20067 – the basket cover for the 307 and 407.
Which basket cover do I need?
| Cover | Part number | Fits |
|---|---|---|
| Small-body cover | A20042 | 105/205, 106/206, 107/207 |
| Large-body cover | A20067 | 305/405, 306/406, 307/407 |
Which filter is which?
The two 07 canisters this cover suits sit at the smaller end of the range. Fluval publishes these figures for them.
| Model | Aquarium capacity | Pump output | Filter circulation | Max head |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 107 | 40–130 L | 550 L/h | 360 L/h | 1.45 m |
| 207 | 60–220 L | 780 L/h | 460 L/h | 1.45 m |
Pump output is measured on an empty canister. Filter circulation is the figure once media is loaded, and it is the one to size a tank against.
What's included
- 1 x media basket cover
Not included
- The media basket itself. This is the lid, not the tray.
- Filter media. Foam, bio media and polishing pads are bought separately.
- The canister body – see the filter canister case for the 107.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for replacing a cover that has cracked, warped or gone brittle; a second-hand 107 or 207 that arrived with parts missing; and 105, 205, 106 or 206 owners who cannot source a period-correct part.
Not suitable for the 305, 405, 306, 406, 307 or 407, or for FX Series canisters. It will not fix poor flow caused by clogged media or a kinked hose.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the cover in tank water at each service and check the slots are clear. Sludge in the slots does the same thing as a missing cover: it pushes water around the media instead of through it. Look along the edge for hairline cracks – a cover that has gone chalky and stiff will usually split the next time you press it home.
Goes well with
- Motor head gasket O-ring – the seal that stops weeping where the head meets the case
- Ceramic impeller shaft and bushing – the usual cause of noise after a rebuild
- 107/207 intake and output kit – for brittle or discoloured stems and nozzles
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. No separate manufacturer warranty term is quoted on moulded service parts. Ships as a standard small parcel anywhere in Australia.
Common questions
Does the Fluval A20042 basket cover fit a 307 or a 407?
No. The 307 and 407 use the larger canister body and take part A20067. A20042 covers the 105/205, 106/206 and 107/207 only.
Can I run the filter without a basket cover?
It will run, but it will not filter as well. Water finds the gap between the basket and the canister wall and bypasses the media, and lightweight bio media can lift into the impeller well.
Will the cover from my old Fluval 106 fit my new 107?
Yes. Fluval uses the same cover across the 105/205, 106/206 and 107/207, so a serviceable cover carries over when you upgrade.
Is this the same as the media basket?
No. This is the slotted lid on top of the stack. The basket is the tray that holds the media and is a separate Fluval part.
Does it matter which way up the cover goes?
Yes. It locates onto the rim of the top basket one way only. If the motor head will not seat and the clips will not close, the cover is upside down or not fully home.
