Fluval 07 Filter Canister Case 107

A cracked canister is the one fault you cannot service your way out of.

This is the genuine Fluval filter canister, part A20183, for the 107 canister filter. It is the moulded body the media baskets sit in and the motor head clamps onto – effectively the pressure vessel of the filter. It fits the 107 only. The 207, 307 and 407 each use their own canister and none of them interchange.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval A20183 – the factory canister for the 107, so the motor head gasket seats on the rim it was designed for.
  • Fixes the unfixable fault – a hairline crack, crazed base or distorted rim cannot be repaired reliably on a body held under pump pressure.
  • Saves a whole filter – the motor head, baskets and hoses from your existing 107 all transfer across.
  • Model-specific by design – a 107 canister is not a shortened 207, so ordering by model number is the whole job here.

Will it fit my filter?

Only if you own a 107. Fluval gives every canister in the 07 range its own part number because the bodies differ in height and diameter.

Filter model Fluval model code Canister part number This product
107 A440 A20183 Yes
207 A443 A20188 No
307 A446 A20193 No
407 A449 A20198 No

For the other three, see the canister case for the 207, the 307 or the 407. The model code is on the label under the motor head if the canister sticker has come off.

Which filter is this, exactly?

The 107 is the smallest of the four 07 Series canisters. Fluval publishes these figures for it.

Specification Fluval 107
Aquarium capacity 40–130 L
Pump output 550 L/h
Filter circulation 360 L/h
Maximum head height 1.45 m
Power consumption 10 W at 230–240 V, 50 Hz

Pump output is measured with the canister empty. Filter circulation, 360 L/h, is what the filter actually moves with media loaded, and it is the number to size a tank against.

What's included
  • 1 x Fluval 107 filter canister body
Not included

This is the canister alone. Every other component of the filter is its own Fluval part:

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for a 107 with a cracked, split or crazed body; a canister that has been dropped or over-tightened and no longer seals evenly; and a second-hand 107 bought as a motor head only. Freshwater and marine alike.

Not suitable for the 207, 307 or 407, any 05 or 06 Series canister, or FX Series filters. It is also not the answer to a leak at the hose connections, which is an AquaStop or hose-nut fault, or a rim leak on an undamaged canister, which is usually the gasket.

Care and maintenance

Support the canister from underneath when lifting a filled filter – most cracked 107 bodies are dropped, not worn out. Do not force the case clips; they are meant to pull the head down against gasket tension only, and levering them onto a distorted rim is what starts a stress crack. Rinse in tank water rather than under a hot tap, keep detergents away, and check the inside of the base each service for hairlines that show up as a slow weep weeks later.

Warranty and delivery

Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them. No separate manufacturer warranty term is quoted on replacement housings. Ships as a standard parcel anywhere in Australia – bulky for its weight, but not oversize or dangerous goods.

Common questions

Will the Fluval A20183 canister fit a 207?

No. The 207 canister is part A20188 and is a different size. Each of the four 07 Series filters has its own canister body and they do not interchange.

Does this come with the media baskets?

No. It is the canister body alone. Motor head, media baskets, basket cover, media and hoses are all separate Fluval parts.

My 107 is weeping from the join. Do I need a new canister?

Usually not. A weep at the rim is far more often a perished or misseated motor head gasket. Replace the gasket first, and only replace the canister if the rim is distorted or the body is cracked.

Can I use an 06 Series canister on my 107?

No. The 106 uses part A20182 and the two are not interchangeable. Match the canister to the exact model number of your filter.

Can a cracked canister be glued?

It should not be. The canister holds several litres under continuous pump pressure, usually inside a cabinet next to power points. A repaired body that fails does so without warning.
