Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets 74g
A meaty sinking pellet sized for predators that feed off the bottom, not the surface. Hikari Sinking Carnivore Pellets are a large sinking pellet aimed at smaller carnivorous fish that don't compete well at the surface — catfish, freshwater sharks, bichirs, eels and smaller plecostomus — delivered as a pellet that holds together on the substrate rather than breaking apart before they reach it.
Key features
- 3.5–4.0 mm sinking pellet — sized for medium-to-large bottom feeders, not small community fish.
- 47% minimum crude protein — a meat-forward formula built around fish meal and krill meal for carnivores.
- Sinks and holds together — reaches bottom-dwelling fish before faster surface feeders can clear it.
- Astaxanthin and canthaxanthin included — support natural colour alongside the base nutrition.
- Stabilised vitamin C — L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate resists leaching into the water column better than plain ascorbic acid.

Feeding directions
Feed two to three times daily, an amount your fish will completely consume in about a minute. Because this pellet is aimed at bottom feeders, drop it near where your fish actually feed rather than scattering it across the surface.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: smaller carnivorous fish, especially non-surface feeders such as catfish, freshwater sharks, Polypterus (bichirs), eels and smaller Plecostomus.
Not suitable for: small community fish that can't manage a 3.5–4.0 mm pellet, and not intended as a herbivore or omnivore staple — this is a meat-forward carnivore diet.
Common questions
Will surface feeders clear this before it reaches the bottom?
It's formulated to sink and hold together, but fast surface feeders in a mixed tank can still intercept some. Feeding directly near your bottom dwellers, after any surface feeders have had their turn, helps make sure it gets to the right fish.
Is the pellet too big for my fish?
At 3.5–4.0 mm this pellet suits medium-to-large bottom feeders. For smaller carnivorous fish, look to a smaller Hikari pellet or granule rather than breaking this one up.
Why does it contain an artificial colour?
Red 3 is included in Hikari's published ingredient statement for this product. If you'd prefer a carnivore diet without added colour, ask us about alternatives in the Hikari range.
Goes well with
Works well alongside a sinking wafer for mixed bottom-feeder tanks, and as the primary diet where a tank is stocked mainly with catfish, eels or bichirs.
