Marina Blue Fish Net (Fine Mesh)
Fine mesh that is kinder to long fins and holds fish a standard net lets through. The Marina Blue Fish Net (Fine Mesh) is a fine-mesh aquarium net in three widths — 15, 20 and 25 cm. Its smaller gaps hold juveniles and small-bodied fish, and are far less likely to snag a barbel or a fin ray than standard mesh. The trade-off is drag: fine mesh pushes more water, so a fast fish feels the net coming. Suits freshwater and marine aquariums.
Key features
- Fine mesh — the smaller aperture is what holds small fish and reduces fin damage on trailing-finned species.
- Three widths, 15 cm to 25 cm — sized for community and display tanks rather than nano work.
- Gentler on bettas and fancy guppies — fewer gaps large enough for a fin ray to hook into.
- Freshwater and marine — rinse in fresh water after saltwater use to stop salt stiffening the mesh.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for
- Fry, juveniles and small-bodied community fish
- Bettas, fancy guppies and other long-finned species
- Lifting floating plant fragments and fine debris from the surface
Not suitable for
- Fast open-water fish in a large tank — the extra drag slows the net, so the wider-gapped Marina Black Fish Net is quicker
- Nano tanks and breeder boxes, where 15 cm is already too wide — use a Marina Easy Catch Net
- Holding a fish out of water for longer than a few seconds
Care and maintenance
Fine mesh clogs with debris faster than standard mesh. Rinse it in tank water after each use and hang it to dry completely rather than folding it damp.
Use a separate net for any quarantine or hospital tank. Moving a damp net between systems is one of the easiest ways to carry whitespot into a healthy display. Replace the net when the mesh thins or the rim loosens.
Goes well with
- Marina Black Fish Net — the faster standard-mesh net for adult fish, and a sensible second net
- Marina Fish Net Breeder Box — keeps fry separated once you have netted them
- Marina Easy Catch Net — small fine-mesh nets for working inside a breeder box
- Marina Vertical LCD Thermometer — match temperatures before moving fry between containers

Common questions
Will a fine-mesh net hold dwarf shrimp?
Adult dwarf shrimp, usually yes. Shrimplets, often not. Marina does not publish the mesh aperture for this net, so treat very small shrimp as a maybe rather than a certainty and move them with a container of water where you can.
Why is a fine net harder to catch fish with?
Smaller gaps mean the mesh pushes water rather than passing through it. That bow wave warns the fish. It is the price of a mesh that will not snag fins, and it is why most tanks end up with both a fine and a standard net.
Is this net safe for bettas?
Yes, and it is the better of the two full-size Marina nets for them. Standard mesh has gaps that a betta's trailing fin can hook into and tear.
Can I use it in a marine tank?
Yes. Rinse it in fresh water afterwards so salt does not dry into the mesh, which makes fine mesh brittle faster than standard mesh.
