Red Sea ReefRun G2 6000 DC Pump

Submersible return flow you dial in, not guess at. The Red Sea ReefRun G2 6000 is a DC-driven sump return pump rated 3,600–6,500 L/h at zero head, with a maximum head height of 4.4 m. It suits mid-to-large reef sumps needing quiet, speed-adjustable return flow, and runs fully submerged inside the sump rather than mounted dry.

Key features
  • 3,600–6,500 L/h adjustable flow — turn it down for a quiet, low-turnover system or up for a heavily stocked or long-plumbed one, at 22–56 W depending on setting.
  • Sine-wave DC motor — Red Sea describes it as virtually silent from a standstill through to full speed; no published dB figure, so judge it against a pump you already own if noise is a deciding factor.
  • Fully submersible — sits inside the sump, not a dry-mounted external pump; a rotatable outlet (180°) lets you aim the return without repiping.
  • Inline Flow Controller included — on/off and speed adjustment without a network connection. The ReefRun Dual Controller (sold separately) adds ReefBeat app scheduling and remote monitoring.
  • Surface air-intake guard — an inlet flow guide stops the pump drawing in surface air and micro-bubbling the display.
  • Two-latch impeller access — service the impeller without disconnecting plumbing.

Red Sea does not publish an input voltage rating or a decibel noise figure for this model in the documentation we could access; we have left both off this page rather than print a guess.

Which ReefRun do I need?
Model Flow at 0 m head Max head Power
ReefRun G2 4000 2,000–4,000 L/h 3.4 m 16–38 W
ReefRun G2 6000 (this pump) 3,600–6,500 L/h 4.4 m 22–56 W
ReefRun G2 8000 4,100–8,300 L/h 5.3 m 24–73 W
ReefRun G2 12000 5,000–12,000 L/h 5.8 m 33–105 W

Size on delivered flow, not the headline number: budget on losing meaningful flow for every metre the pump has to lift water through your drain plumbing, skimmer and manifold before it reaches the display. The 6000 gets you comfortably past most single-drain sump setups with headroom to spare, without the extra draw and cost of the 8000.

Performance
Head height Flow
0 m (zero head) 3,600–6,500 L/h, adjustable by speed setting
4.4 m (maximum head) 0 L/h — the pump stalls at this lift

Red Sea publishes the zero-head flow range and the maximum head figure but not a full flow-against-head curve at intermediate points (0.5 m, 1 m, 1.5 m, 2 m, 3 m); we have not found one in its manuals or on its site. Treat the 3,600–6,500 L/h figure as a best case and expect meaningfully less once the pump is working against your actual drain height, elbows and skimmer restriction.

Running costs

As a sump return pump this typically runs continuously. At a mid-speed setting of roughly 39 W (the midpoint of the published 22–56 W range) that works out to about 342 kWh a year, or roughly $103 on a 30c/kWh tariff — your own tariff and flow setting will move that figure up or down.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to marine and reef sump systems needing 3,600–6,500 L/h of adjustable, submerged return flow, and to hobbyists who want manual speed control without committing to the app-controlled Dual Controller. Red Sea markets it primarily for reef systems; we have not found a manufacturer statement either confirming or ruling out freshwater use, so check with us first if that is your setup. Not the right pump for in-tank circulation — it is a return pump for the sump, not a gyre or wavemaker for the display.

Care and maintenance

The two-latch impeller housing is designed for tool-free access — rinse the impeller and housing of any calcium buildup or debris at your regular maintenance interval. The impeller is a wear item carrying its own 6-month warranty, shorter than the 2-year motor warranty, so budget for eventual replacement.

Safety

Mains-powered equipment — run it through an RCD-protected circuit and keep a drip loop on the power cable.

Warranty and delivery

Red Sea covers the motor for 2 years and the impeller, as a wear item, for 6 months — both in addition to your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery.

Common questions

Does this include a controller?

A basic Inline Flow Controller is included, giving manual on/off and speed control without needing Wi-Fi. The ReefRun Dual Controller, which adds ReefBeat app scheduling and remote monitoring, is sold separately.

Is it submersible or does it mount outside the sump?

Fully submersible — Red Sea's own manual specifies installation "fully submerged, inside a sump," unlike some dry-mounted return pumps.

Will I really get 6,500 L/h in my system?

Only at zero head, straight out of the box with nothing plumbed to it. Once it is lifting water through your drain, elbows and skimmer, expect noticeably less — Red Sea has not published the numbers in between zero head and the 4.4 m maximum, so size with margin rather than against the headline figure.

What voltage does it run on?

We have not been able to confirm a published input voltage figure for this model. Get in touch before ordering if you need it confirmed for a non-standard installation.
