Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Cartridge
When the housing wears out, the blades have nothing to hold them. The Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Cartridge is the sliding insert that carries every working surface on the scraper – and it is the only way to buy the hard plastic blade, which is moulded into the housing rather than sold separately. Seachem supplies it as a kit: the plastic housing, one metal blade and one soft pad. It fits the 31 cm and 46 cm Algae Scrapers.
What's included
- Plastic cartridge housing, with the hard plastic blade built in
- 1 metal blade
- 1 soft pad
Not included
- The Algae Scraper itself – this is the insert only, not the tool
- Spare blades or pads beyond the one of each supplied
Key features
- Three surfaces in one insert – the built-in plastic blade, plus a metal blade and a soft pad you seat at either end
- Reversible – load two different surfaces facing opposite ways and flip mid-clean instead of walking back to the bucket
- Retractable – pulls fully into the scraper head, so a metal blade is never left exposed in storage
- The only source of the plastic blade – it is moulded into the housing and is not sold on its own
- Tool-free – the cartridge slides out of the head by hand

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for: a cartridge that has cracked, lost its grip on a blade, or worn its plastic edge round · keeping a second cartridge pre-loaded for quick swaps · freshwater and marine tanks · owners of the 31 cm or 46 cm Seachem Algae Scraper.
Not suitable for: the 15 cm Seachem Algae Scraper, which Seachem does not list among the fitments · buyers who only need a fresh cutting edge – the blade or pad refills are the cheaper answer · use of the metal blade on acrylic.
Care and maintenance
- Rinse and dry the cartridge after every clean; salt creep stiffens the slide
- Replace the housing when the built-in plastic edge rounds off, or when a blade no longer seats firmly
- Retract the cartridge fully before storing the scraper
Goes well with
- Seachem Algae Scraper – the tool this cartridge fits
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Blades – three metal blades to keep the cartridge loaded
- Seachem Algae Scraper Replacement Pads – three soft pads, the acrylic-safe surface
- The full Seachem range – media, treatments and spares
Warranty and delivery
The cartridge is a wear part and carries no separate manufacturer warranty term. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless and cannot be excluded. Ships as a standard parcel.
Common questions
Does the Seachem Algae Scraper cartridge come with blades?
Yes. Seachem supplies it as a kit containing the plastic housing, one metal blade and one soft pad. The hard plastic blade is part of the housing itself.
Can I buy the plastic blade on its own?
No. The plastic blade is moulded into the cartridge housing, so replacing the cartridge is the only way to renew it.
Which scrapers does the cartridge fit?
Seachem lists it as fitting both the 31 cm and the 46 cm Algae Scraper. It is not listed for the 15 cm model.
Should I buy a cartridge or just a blade refill?
If the scraper still holds a blade firmly and the plastic edge is square, buy the blade or pad refill. Buy the cartridge when the housing itself is cracked, loose or worn round.
Is the plastic blade safe on acrylic?
Seachem describes it as safe on glass and generally safe on acrylic, but acrylic scratches under pressure or from trapped grit. On acrylic the soft pad is the safer first choice.
