Vectra S2 Centrifugal Pump
The entry point into EcoTech's Gen 2 return pumps. The EcoTech Marine Vectra S2 is the smallest and most affordable pump in EcoTech's Gen 2 Vectra line, built for smaller displays and shorter sump lifts. Unlike the M2 and L2 in this range, the S2 uses EcoTech's centrifugal drive rather than the newer Mobius magnetic drive — it's still wirelessly controlled through the EcoSmart Live app, and is rated to move up to 5,300 L/h (1,400 GPH), a figure measured with the pump at the same level as the water, before any lift from your plumbing.
Key features
- Wireless control via EcoSmart Live — set speed and schedule feed pauses from a phone or the web, no separate controller box.
- Lowest running cost in the Vectra range — 72 W, the smallest draw of the three Gen 2 Vectra models.
- Compact footprint — the smallest of the three, easiest to fit under a tight cabinet stand.
- Quiet Drive technology — EcoTech's standard quiet-running design, carried across the Vectra range.
- Standard PVC quick couplers included — straightforward to plumb into an existing return line without sourcing extra fittings.

Performance — the flow you'll actually get
5,300 L/h is EcoTech's rated figure at zero head — no lift at all. The S2's maximum head is lower than the M2 and L2 as well (3.5 m versus 6.5 m), which matters most if your sump sits well below the display or your plumbing run is long.
| Head height | Flow rate |
|---|---|
| 0 m — pump level with the sump water line | 5,300 L/h (1,400 GPH), EcoTech's rated figure |
| 3.5 m (11.5 ft) — maximum rated head | 0 L/h — the point at which the pump can no longer lift water |
EcoTech doesn't publish flow at intermediate head heights for the Gen 2 Vectra range on its public spec sheet, so we're only showing you the two points EcoTech itself confirms rather than guessing what happens between them. A short, direct plumbing run with modest lift is where the S2 performs closest to its rated figure; a long run with several elbows and a metre or more of rise will pull it down noticeably faster than the same run would on an M2 or L2, because it has less head capacity to spare.
Which Vectra do I need?
| Model | Rated flow | Max head | Power draw | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vectra S2 (Centrifugal) | 5,300 L/h (1,400 GPH) | 3.5 m (11.5 ft) | 72 W | Smaller displays, short sump lifts |
| Vectra M2 (Mobius) | 7,500 L/h (2,000 GPH) | 6.5 m (21.5 ft) | 96 W | Mid-size systems, standard cabinet sump lifts |
| Vectra L2 (Mobius) | 11,500 L/h (3,100 GPH) | 6.5 m (21.5 ft) | 150 W | Large displays, multiple returns, long plumbing runs |
The S2 suits a smaller display with a short, direct plumbing run — think a nano-to-mid marine tank on an integrated cabinet where the sump sits close to the display. If your sump is a metre or more below the tank, or your run has several bends, step up to the M2 for the extra head capacity even if you don't need the extra flow.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: marine and freshwater return lines on smaller displays, and cabinet-integrated sumps with a short, direct plumbing run.
- Not suitable for: submersible in-tank use — it's a dry-mounted external pump. It's also not the right pick for a long plumbing run or a sump lift approaching a metre and a half; the lower 3.5 m max head will cost you flow faster than it would on an M2.
What's included
- Vectra S2 pump head
- 72 W external power supply
- Mounting bracket
- Standard PVC quick couplers for the 25 mm inlet and 19 mm outlet
You'll still need your own plumbing (pipe, unions and manifold fittings) and, if you want control away from your home Wi-Fi, an EcoTech ReefLink.
Running costs and noise
At 72 W drawn continuously, running the S2 around the clock works out to roughly 1.7 kWh a day, or about 630 kWh a year — around $189 a year at a flat 30c/kWh, before any reduction from EcoSmart Live's speed control. It's the cheapest of the three Vectra models to run, in keeping with it being the smallest. EcoTech doesn't publish a dB rating for the S2 beyond marketing it under "Quiet Drive Technology", so we won't put a number on it.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the impeller and volute in fresh water periodically and check the inlet strainer isn't restricting flow — a partially blocked intake is the most common cause of an S2 reading below its rated flow. Because the S2 uses a centrifugal rather than Mobius drive, its impeller and wet-end wear parts are specific to this model — check the part number before ordering a spare.
Safety
Mains-powered via the included external power supply — mount it clear of any splash zone and keep the DC lead away from standing water. Runs from a standard 240 V/50 Hz Australian household supply. Fit a check valve on the outlet if your sump lift is more than a few hundred millimetres, since the S2's lower head capacity gives less margin for back-siphon on power-off.
Goes well with
- EcoTech ReefLink — for app control away from your home Wi-Fi.
- Check valve sized to the 19 mm outlet, for back-siphon protection on any lift.
- Vectra Battery Backup Booster — keeps flow going through a power outage.
Warranty and delivery
EcoTech Marine's standard warranty covers the S2 against defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase, provided it's registered within 30 days — in addition to, not instead of, your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships standard freight.
Common questions
Is the S2 the same Mobius drive as the M2 and L2?
No — the S2 in EcoTech's Gen 2 Vectra range uses a centrifugal drive, not the Mobius magnetic drive fitted to the M2 and L2. It's still wirelessly controlled the same way through EcoSmart Live.
Will the S2 handle a sump sitting under a tall cabinet stand?
Its 3.5 m maximum head is noticeably lower than the M2 and L2's 6.5 m, so on a tall stand or a long plumbing run it will lose a bigger share of its rated flow. If your lift is more than about a metre, the M2 is the safer choice.
Does the S2 need a controller to work?
No. It runs at constant speed out of the box and is adjustable from the free EcoSmart Live app over Wi-Fi.
Is the S2 submersible?
No — it's a dry-mounted external pump, plumbed in beside or below the sump rather than run underwater.
Can I upgrade from an S2 to an M2 later without replumbing everything?
The inlet and outlet sizes differ (25 mm/19 mm on the S2 versus 31.75 mm/25 mm on the M2), so you'll need reducer fittings or new couplers either way — factor that into the decision now if you think you might outgrow the S2.
