Zoo Med Creatures LED White Light 5w
Bright, natural daylight for invertebrate habitats without adding heat. The Zoo Med Creatures® LED (item CT-5N) is a 5 W, 450-lumen daylight LED lamp built for the Creatures line of nano terrariums and invertebrate enclosures. It fits the Zoo Med Creatures Dome Lamp Fixture and is designed to light up isopods, tarantulas, millipedes, roaches and other small invertebrate habitats — and any live plants growing in them — without raising the enclosure temperature the way an incandescent bulb would.
Key features
- 5 W, 450 lumens — bright daylight-white output from a compact, energy-efficient LED.
- Heat-neutral — Zoo Med markets this lamp as lighting the habitat without increasing enclosure temperature, so it can run alongside a separate heat source without pushing temperatures up further.
- Plant-friendly — daylight spectrum suits live plants and moss commonly used in bioactive invertebrate setups.
- Purpose-built fit — designed to fit the Zoo Med Creatures Dome Lamp Fixture (sold separately).
- Low running cost — at 5 W, an estimated 12-hour daily photoperiod costs under $7 a year on a 30c/kWh tariff (see Running cost below).

Running cost
Zoo Med doesn't publish a duty cycle for this lamp, so this is an estimate rather than a manufacturer figure: run 12 hours a day as a typical invertebrate daylight period, and 5 W works out to roughly 22 kWh a year — about $6.60 a year at a 30c/kWh tariff. Run it fewer hours a day and the cost falls proportionally.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: daytime viewing and plant-growth lighting in Creatures-style nano terrariums and invertebrate enclosures — isopods, tarantulas, millipedes, roaches, beetles and similar.
- Not suitable for: any reptile, amphibian or invertebrate that needs UVB — this lamp produces no UVB and will not maintain a basking or UV zone. Species that need supplemental UVB need a dedicated Zoo Med UVB lamp alongside this light, not instead of it.
Warranty and delivery
Zoo Med backs this lamp with a 3-month manufacturer warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight applies; there's no oversize or dangerous-goods handling on this item.
Common questions
Does this lamp provide UVB?
No. The Creatures LED is a visible daylight lamp only. Reptiles and invertebrates that need UVB require a separate Zoo Med UVB lamp run alongside this one.
Will it heat up my terrarium?
Zoo Med markets it specifically as lighting that does not add heat to the enclosure, unlike an incandescent daylight bulb. If you need to raise the ambient or basking temperature, that has to come from a dedicated heat lamp or heat mat.
What fixture does it fit?
It's designed for the Zoo Med Creatures Dome Lamp Fixture. Zoo Med doesn't publish the base/socket type for this specific bulb, so if you're fitting it to a different dome, check compatibility before buying.
Is it suitable for live plants?
Yes — daylight-spectrum LEDs like this one are commonly used over moss and small plants in bioactive invertebrate setups, though Zoo Med doesn't publish a PAR figure for it.
