Key features
  • High UVB output for reptiles from arid environments that get direct sunlight.
  • Works through denser screen covers: Exo Terra notes that dense screens can filter out up to 50 percent of UVB, and this tube is designed with that in mind.
  • High vitamin D3 yield (Exo Terra's measure of how well the light drives vitamin D3 production) to support calcium metabolism.
  • Linear tube that spreads light along its length rather than from a single point.
Specifications
  • Lengths and wattages: 45 cm 15 W, 60 cm 18 W, 75 cm 25 W, 90 cm 30 W, 120 cm 36 W
  • Format: T8 linear fluorescent tube (T8 means a tube 25 mm across); needs a T8 fluorescent fixture of the matching wattage
  • Rating: UVB150, the desert tube in Exo Terra's T8 range (UVB100, UVB150, UVB200)
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for desert reptiles that bask in direct sun, and for enclosures with a denser screen top. Not the right choice for shade-dwelling tropical species, which Exo Terra covers with the gentler UVB100. It is not a heat source, so pair it with a suitable basking lamp.

Care

A fluorescent tube can keep lighting after its UVB output has dropped, so replace it on the schedule given on the packaging rather than waiting for it to fail. Glass, acrylic and fine mesh between the tube and the animal block part of the UVB, so mount it where it has a clear path to the basking area. Give the animal shaded areas it can retreat to, away from the tube.

Safety

Switch off and let the tube cool before changing it, and avoid looking straight at the lit tube.
