Discus Bio-Gold - 80g

A granule that goes soft in seconds and holds its shape while a discus mouths it repeatedly, the way discus actually eat. Hikari Discus Bio-Gold is a 1.5–2.0 mm sinking granule built around krill, silkworm pupae and fish meal, with a texture engineered specifically for discus feeding behaviour — it won't disintegrate and cloud the water the way a standard pellet does when a discus picks it up and spits it out before eating.

Key features
  • 1.5–2.0 mm sinking granule — sized for discus and similarly sized dwarf cichlids.
  • Softens on contact, holds together — matches how discus repeatedly mouth food before swallowing, without breaking apart in the water.
  • 50% crude protein — a high-protein formula built for discus growth and condition.
  • Stabilised vitamin C — supports immune system health.
  • Natural colour-enhancing carotenoids — for vivid, natural colouration rather than an artificial colour boost alone.

Feeding directions

Feed a small amount several times a day rather than one or two larger feeds — discus do better on frequent small feeds than on being filled up twice a day. Turning the water flow down while feeding can help. Remove any uneaten food after the feeding period.

Storage

Keep in a cool place away from direct sunlight, moisture and humidity. The product is good until the best-before date printed on the pack; once opened, use within around 90 days for best condition.

Warranty and delivery

Sold with the consumer guarantees that apply under Australian Consumer Law. This is a shelf-stable dry product with no cold-chain requirement and ships with standard freight.

Common questions

Why does this granule go soft so quickly?

It's built for discus, which mouth and spit out food repeatedly before eating it — the granule is engineered to soften and hold its shape through that process instead of disintegrating and clouding the water.

Is Discus Bio-Gold safe with invertebrates?

It contains copper sulphate as a trace mineral source, so take care feeding it in a tank that also houses shrimp or other copper-sensitive invertebrates.

How often should I feed my discus?

Several small feeds through the day work better than one or two large ones — feed only what's cleared within a few minutes each time.

Will this work for other cichlids, not just discus?

Yes — Hikari also lists it as suitable for angelfish, Apistogramma and other dwarf cichlids of a similar size.

What sizes does this come in?

This listing is the 80 g pack; Hikari also produces a 1 kg size of the same formula.
