Size Your Aquarium Chiller
Enter your tank volume and we'll recommend a Teco chiller sized to hold it – based on each model's own rated volume.
Based on Teco's own rated volumes: TK150 to 150L, R290 TK500 to 500L, TK1000 to 1000L, TK2000 to 2000L. Ratings assume water at 25°C in a 30°C room with standard lighting – size up if your room runs hotter or your lighting load is heavy.
FAQ
How do I choose the right chiller size?
Enter your tank volume above – it's matched against Teco's own rated volumes for each model. If you're right on the boundary between two sizes, or your tank runs a heavy lighting rig, size up.
What does "rated to 500L" actually assume?
Teco tests each model against one published condition: water at 25°C in a 30°C room, with a heat load of about 0.3–0.5 watts per litre from lighting and pumps. It's not a guarantee across every room and every lighting setup – a hotter room or heavier lighting load will reduce the volume the same unit can hold at temperature.
Do I need a dedicated pump to run a chiller?
Yes, or spare capacity on your existing return pump. Each model has its own minimum flow rate – 400L/h for the TK150 and TK500, 500L/h for the TK1000, 600L/h for the TK2000 – check your pump can supply it before buying.
My tank is bigger than the TK2000's rating – what do I do?
Ask our team in-store. Systems over 2000L (or display-plus-sump totals that add up to that) generally need either a larger commercial unit or multiple chillers plumbed together, and that's worth a conversation about your specific setup rather than a generic answer here.
